Playbook · Shopify back in stock / notify me alert missing

Shopify back in stock alert missing on OOS PDP.

Written for a Shopify DTC owner whose Notify me when available / Email me when available / Back in stock alert never appears on an out-of-stock product page — App embeds off on the live theme, product templates missing the notify / waitlist theme app block, customer accounts required so guests never get a mount, waitlist or restock email templates unpublished. DIY-first: prove App embeds vs theme app blocks vs customer accounts vs email; repair the live OOS product template; retest on the live storefront. Distinct from preorder button / continue selling UI not showing, multi-location inventory oversell / wrong available stock, wishlist / save for later button missing, and selling plan / subscription widget not showing. If shoppers already signed up but the restock email never sends, that is back-in-stock-email-not-sending. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

Back in stock / notify me missing — not preorder, not continue selling, not inventory oversell, not wishlist, not selling plans.

Several OOS / waitlist-adjacent controls can look like “the notify me thing is missing.” They do not share a settings panel. This page is only when a Notify me / Email me when available / Back in stock alert never appears on an out-of-stock product page (apps, theme blocks, customer accounts, email). Preorder button / continue selling when out of stock UI is shopify-preorder-button-not-showing. Multi-location inventory oversell / available stock wrong across locations is multi-location-inventory-wrong. Wishlist / save for later heart missing is shopify-wishlist-button-missing. Selling plan / subscription widget missing is shopify-selling-plan-not-showing. Sold-out soft 404 in Search Console is shopify-soft-404-sold-out. Restock email silence after a successful signup is back-in-stock-email-not-sending. This page is only: back in stock / notify me alert not showing on OOS PDP.

Six ordinary reasons the control never mounts: the back-in-stock / notify-me App embed is off on the Current theme (or only on a draft), the product JSON template is missing the notify / waitlist theme app block after a theme edit (Sold out stays hardcoded with no form), the app requires customer accounts while you test as a guest so the form never renders, waitlist confirmation or restock email templates are draft / spam-folder only so you think “nothing works,” two notify apps fight and both stay unpublished, or support tested preorder / continue selling / inventory oversell / wishlist / selling plans and called it “back in stock.” Walk them in that order. You already pay for Shopify.

02

Prove App embeds vs theme app blocks vs customer accounts vs email on a live OOS PDP.

On the live storefront (not theme editor preview), open a product / variant that is truly out of stock on the failing market / device. Capture: whether any Notify me / Email me when available / Back in stock control exists in the DOM (View Source / Elements), Online Store → Themes → Customize → Theme settings → App embeds for the back-in-stock / notify-me app on the live theme, the product template this SKU uses for a notify / waitlist app block near the sold-out state, whether the app requires login / new customer accounts before the form mounts, and whether waitlist confirmation + restock email templates are published (Shopify Email / Klaviyo / the app’s own sender). Screenshot before you change settings.

Honest proof: if the missing control is a Preorder / Continue selling button while inventory policy is CONTINUE, leave for shopify-preorder-button-not-showing. If available quantity is wrong across locations and buyers can oversell, leave for multi-location-inventory-wrong. If a wishlist heart is what is missing, leave for shopify-wishlist-button-missing. If a subscription / selling-plan widget is missing, leave for shopify-selling-plan-not-showing. If the form existed, the shopper signed up, and the restock email never arrived, leave for back-in-stock-email-not-sending. Do not mix those proofs with a missing notify-me mount.

03

Back-in-stock App embed off on the live theme (or only on a draft).

Most Notify me / Back in stock / Email when available apps need an App embed on the live Online Store 2.0 theme before any OOS form can mount. The app can look “installed” in Admin with products selected and email connected while the embed is toggled off on Current, enabled only on a draft copy you never published, or blocked by a consent / script manager that holds marketing embeds.

Fix path: Online Store → Themes → Customize on the live theme → Theme settings → App embeds. Enable the back-in-stock / notify-me embed. Save. Retest a live OOS PDP URL — not only the editor preview. If App embeds fail across many apps (reviews, pixels, consent), that is the generic app-embed-not-loading playbook — chase that only when the notify embed is one of several missing embeds, not when notify alone is unpublished.

04

OOS product template missing the notify / waitlist theme app block.

Online Store 2.0 themes and notify apps expose a theme app block for the waitlist form on the product information / buy buttons / sold-out state. If that block was removed in a theme update, never added to the alternate product template this SKU uses, only present on a draft template, or CSS-hidden under a sticky ATC / chat layer, buyers only see Sold out — even when the App embed is on. Continue selling / inventory policy CONTINUE that still shows Add to cart is a different product (shopify-preorder-button-not-showing); this page is when inventory is DENY / OOS and the notify form should replace or sit under Sold out.

Fix path: Customize the live theme. Open the product template this OOS SKU actually uses. Re-add the Notify me / Back in stock / Email when available app block where the design expects it (near the sold-out / buy buttons area). Publish Current. Retest live OOS PDP. Theme editor publish / save failures are theme-editor-publish-failing. A dead sticky ATC that covers the form is sticky-add-to-cart-not-working — fix that only when the notify block is present but covered.

05

Customer accounts gating the form, or waitlist / restock email never published.

Some notify apps hide the form until the shopper is logged into customer accounts (classic or new customer accounts), or they only show a “Log in to get notified” link that looks blank on mobile. If the app setting is “require login,” the theme block is account-gated, or new customer accounts identity redirects fail before the control mounts, guests browsing OOS PDPs never see a notify form — support then reports “back in stock missing” after testing logged out.

Separately: if the form mounts and accepts an email, but waitlist confirmation or restock email templates are draft, the app’s sender is unverified, or Flow / Klaviyo never watches inventory restock, you will still conclude “notify me is broken.” That email path after a successful signup is back-in-stock-email-not-sending— chase it only when the form is visible and submits. Fix path for this page: open the notify app settings; decide whether guests may join the waitlist; surface a visible login affordance instead of blank space when login is required; confirm waitlist + restock templates are published; retest as guest and logged-in on a live OOS PDP. If new customer accounts login is broken, that is new-customer-accounts-login-broken.

You tested preorder, continue selling, inventory oversell, wishlist, or selling plans instead.

Preorder button / continue selling when out of stock UI missing is shopify-preorder-button-not-showing. Multi-location inventory oversell / available stock wrong is multi-location-inventory-wrong. Wishlist / save for later button missing is shopify-wishlist-button-missing. Selling plan / subscription widget missing is shopify-selling-plan-not-showing. Restock email silence after signup is back-in-stock-email-not-sending. Sold-out soft 404 is shopify-soft-404-sold-out.

The only honest test for this page: Notify me / Email me when available / Back in stock alert is missing on an OOS PDP — fixable with a live App embed, OOS product theme app blocks, customer-account gating that still mounts a control, and published waitlist / restock email — not preorder alone, not continue selling alone, not inventory oversell alone, not wishlist alone, not selling plans alone, not email silence after a successful signup alone. Capture embeds + blocks + accounts + email, fix the path. Anything else is a different product.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove App embeds vs theme app blocks vs customer accounts vs email, enable the notify embed on the live theme, add the waitlist block to the OOS product template, align guest vs logged-in behavior, publish waitlist / restock templates, and stop confusing preorder / continue selling / inventory oversell / wishlist / selling plans with a missing notify-me control. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Pay for help when the work is not the notify-me row — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in DMs, storefront and checkout-ready exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.

What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a notify-app rebuild, not an earnings number.

Other shops' public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or waitlist-uptime guarantee.

What it does not buy: more orders, recovered waitlist signups, a forever notify-me uptime guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.

Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
