Playbook · Shopify wishlist / save for later button missing
Shopify wishlist button missing on PDP or collection.
Written for a Shopify DTC owner whose wishlist / save for later / heart control never appears on the product page or collection cards — App embeds off on the live theme, product / card templates missing the wishlist theme app block, customer accounts required so guests never get a mount, CSS or section toggles hiding the icon. DIY-first: prove App embeds vs theme app blocks vs customer accounts; repair the live PDP and collection templates; retest on the live storefront. Distinct from gift wrapping / gift message option missing, cart drawer / AJAX cart not updating, variant picker / swatches not updating, and generic app embed / theme app extension not loading. If the heart is visible but dead on click, that is wishlist-button-not-working. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

01
Wishlist / save for later missing — not gift wrapping, not cart drawer, not variant picker, not generic app embed.
Several storefront controls can look like “something for save later is missing.” They do not share a settings panel. This page is only when a wishlist / save for later / heart control never appears on the product page or collection cards (App embeds, theme app blocks, customer accounts). Gift wrapping / gift message at cart or checkout is shopify-gift-wrapping-option-missing. Cart drawer / AJAX cart not updating after add-to-cart is cart-drawer-not-updating. Variant picker / swatches not updating price or image is variant-picker-not-updating. A generic App embed failure that hits every marketing / reviews app is app-embed-not-loading. A visible heart that does nothing on click is wishlist-button-not-working. This page is only: wishlist / save for later button not showing on PDP or collection.
Six ordinary reasons the control never mounts: the wishlist App embed is off on the Current theme (or only on a draft), the product JSON template or collection card section is missing the wishlist theme app block after a theme edit, the app requires customer accounts while you test as a guest so the icon never renders, a section setting / CSS / sticky ATC / chat z-index hides the heart on mobile, two wishlist apps fight and both stay unpublished, or support tested gift wrap / cart drawer / variant picker / generic app embed and called it “wishlist.” Walk them in that order. You already pay for Shopify.
02
Prove App embeds vs theme app blocks vs customer accounts on live PDP and collection.
On the live storefront (not theme editor preview), open a product page and a collection card on the failing market / device. Capture: whether any heart / wishlist / save for later control exists in the DOM (View Source / Elements), Online Store → Themes → Customize → Theme settings → App embeds for the wishlist app on the live theme, product and collection templates for wishlist app blocks on the product form / product information / card sections, and whether the wishlist app settings require login / new customer accounts before the control mounts. Screenshot before you change settings.
Honest proof: if a gift wrap checkbox at cart is what is missing, leave for shopify-gift-wrapping-option-missing. If the cart drawer fails to update after add-to-cart, leave for cart-drawer-not-updating. If variant swatches fail to update price / image / ATC, leave for variant-picker-not-updating. If App embeds fail for reviews / pixels / consent too, leave for app-embed-not-loading. If the heart is visible but silent on click, leave for wishlist-button-not-working. Do not mix those proofs with a missing wishlist control.
03
Wishlist App embed off on the live theme (or only on a draft).
Most wishlist / save for later apps need an App embed on the live Online Store 2.0 theme before any heart can mount. The app can look “installed” in Admin with settings filled while the embed is toggled off on Current, enabled only on a draft copy you never published, or blocked by a consent / script manager that holds marketing embeds.
Fix path: Online Store → Themes → Customize on the live theme → Theme settings → App embeds. Enable the wishlist / save for later embed. Save. Retest the live PDP and collection URL — not only the editor preview. If App embeds fail across many apps (reviews, pixels, consent), that is the generic app-embed-not-loading playbook — chase that only when the wishlist embed is one of several missing embeds, not when wishlist alone is unpublished.
04
Product / collection card templates missing the wishlist theme app block.
Online Store 2.0 themes and wishlist apps expose a theme app block for the heart on the product information section, product form, or collection product card. If that block was removed in a theme update, never added to the collection card section, only present on a draft template, or CSS-hidden under a sticky ATC / quick-view / chat layer, buyers never see the control — even when the App embed is on.
Fix path: Customize the live theme. Open the product template and the collection / product-card section. Re-add the wishlist / save for later app block where the design expects the heart (near ATC on PDP; on the card media or actions on collection). Publish. Retest live PDP and collection. Theme editor publish / save failures are theme-editor-publish-failing. A dead sticky ATC / mobile buy bar that covers the heart is sticky-add-to-cart-not-working — fix that only when the wishlist block is present but covered.
05
Customer accounts required so guests never see a mount.
Some wishlist apps hide the heart until the shopper is logged into customer accounts (classic or new customer accounts). If the app setting is “require login,” the theme block is account-gated, or new customer accounts identity redirects fail before the control mounts, guests browsing PDP and collection never see a wishlist button — support then reports “wishlist missing” after testing logged out.
Fix path: open the wishlist app settings. Decide whether guests may save for later (local / cookie list) or login is required. If login is required, surface a visible login / create-account affordance instead of a blank space. Retest as a guest and as a logged-in customer on the live theme. If new customer accounts login is broken / redirect-looping, that is new-customer-accounts-login-broken — a different product from a missing wishlist mount. If the heart appears for logged-in buyers but does nothing on click, switch to wishlist-button-not-working.
06
You tested gift wrapping, cart drawer, variant picker, or generic app embed instead.
Gift wrapping / gift message option missing is shopify-gift-wrapping-option-missing. Cart drawer / AJAX cart not updating is cart-drawer-not-updating. Variant picker / swatches not updating is variant-picker-not-updating. Generic app embed / theme app extension not loading is app-embed-not-loading. Wishlist heart visible but dead on click is wishlist-button-not-working.
The only honest test for this page: wishlist / save for later button is missing on PDP or collection — fixable with a live App embed, product / card theme app blocks, and customer-account gating that still mounts a control — not gift wrap alone, not cart drawer alone, not variant picker alone, not a generic app embed outage alone, not a dead click alone. Capture embeds + blocks + accounts, fix the path. Anything else is a different product.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.
Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove App embeds vs theme app blocks vs customer accounts, enable the wishlist embed on the live theme, add the wishlist block to product and collection card templates, align guest vs logged-in behavior, and stop confusing gift wrap / cart drawer / variant picker / generic app embed with a missing wishlist control. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Pay for help when the work is not the wishlist row — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in DMs, storefront and checkout-ready exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.
What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a wishlist-app rebuild, not an earnings number.
Other shops' public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or wishlist-uptime guarantee.
What it does not buy: more orders, recovered wishlist saves, a forever heart-uptime guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.
