Playbook · app embed / theme app extension not loading
Shopify app embed / theme app extension not loading on storefront — App embeds toggle, Online Store 2.0, conflicting scripts.
Written for a Shopify DTC owner whose installed app’s storefront embed or theme app extension never appears on the live URL — usually the theme editor App embeds toggle is off on the Current theme, the embed was enabled only on a draft Online Store 2.0 copy, or another script / consent banner is blocking it. DIY-first: prove the toggle on Current, Publish if you edited a draft, isolate conflicting scripts, hard-refresh logged-out. Distinct from theme editor publish / save failing, product reviews not showing, wishlist button not working, cookie banner blocking checkout, and Meta CAPI events missing. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

01
App embed / theme app extension not loading — not theme editor publish fail, reviews, wishlist, cookie banner, Meta CAPI.
Several products can look like “my app is not on the storefront.” They do not share a settings panel. This page is only when an installed app’s App embed or theme app extension never loads on the live storefront — blank slot, missing script, or embed toggle that never stuck. Theme editor Save / Publish refusing or edits never going live is theme editor publish failing. A blank Judge.me / Loox / Okendo reviews widget is product reviews not showing. A dead heart / save-for-later control is wishlist button not working. A GDPR / consent overlay covering buy buttons is cookie banner blocking checkout. Purchase / AddToCart missing in Events Manager is Meta CAPI events missing. This page is only: app embed / theme app extension not loading on the storefront.
Six ordinary reasons an embed never appears: App embeds toggle off (or never enabled) on the Current theme, you enabled it only on a draft / duplicated Online Store 2.0 copy, conflicting scripts or a second embed fighting the same global slot, a consent / privacy banner holding marketing scripts so the embed never boots, you confused an app block on one product template with a global App embed, or you are debugging theme editor publish / reviews / wishlist / cookie banner / Meta CAPI instead. Walk them in that order. You already pay for Shopify Online Store. You do not need another seat to turn the toggle on.
02
Prove App embeds toggle on the Current / Published Online Store 2.0 theme.
Online Store → Themes. Note which row says Current / Published. Open Customize on that theme. Theme settings → App embeds. Find the app’s embed row. Screenshot whether it is on or off. Preview the storefront from that editor, then open the live marketed URL in a logged-out Incognito window and hard-refresh. Compare preview vs live.
Honest proof: if the embed is off on Current, or on only on a non-Current draft while live stays blank, stay on this page. If Save / Publish itself fails with a JSON / app-block toast, leave for theme editor publish failing. If the embed is on and only one widget (reviews, wishlist) is blank on a product template, leave for that widget’s playbook. If the problem is consent covering checkout, leave for cookie banner. If Events Manager is silent for CAPI, leave for Meta CAPI. Do not mix those proofs.
03
App embeds toggle off (or never enabled) on the live theme.
Installing an app from the Shopify App Store does not always enable its storefront embed. Online Store 2.0 apps that ship a theme app extension usually need Theme settings → App embeds flipped on for the Current theme. After a theme switch, duplicate, or app reinstall, the toggle often resets to off even though the app admin still looks “connected.”
Fix: Customize on the Current theme → Theme settings → App embeds → enable the app’s embed → Save. Confirm the live Incognito URL loads the script (View Source / Network for the app’s host). Do not confuse an app block dropped on one product template with a global App embed. A reviews or wishlist block missing from one template is a different product — product reviews not showing or wishlist button not working.
04
You enabled the embed on a draft / duplicated theme while Current stayed live.
App embeds are per theme. Enabling an embed on an unpublished copy makes the editor preview look perfect — then buyers still see a blank live storefront because Current never received the toggle. Staff with limited Themes permissions may edit a copy but not Publish. CDN / browser cache can also make a successful enable look “stuck” for a few minutes on one device.
Fix: Themes list — enable the embed on the Current theme, or Publish the theme you edited after Save. Have an owner / full Themes role publish if your staff login cannot. Retest logged-out Incognito and on a phone. Hard refresh. If Publish itself fails with JSON / app-block errors, that is theme editor publish failing, not an embed-toggle problem.
05
Conflicting scripts, consent blockers, and two embeds fighting the same slot.
Two loyalty / popup / chat embeds can overwrite each other’s DOM hooks. A consent / Customer Privacy / Consentmo banner that blocks marketing scripts until accept can leave an embed installed-but-silent. Custom theme JS that strips third-party scripts, an ad blocker on your test laptop, or a leftover script tag from an uninstalled app can also blank the slot while the App embeds row still shows On.
Fix: disable other App embeds one at a time; Save; retest Incognito without extensions. Temporarily accept cookies / set consent to allow marketing if the embed depends on that category. Remove orphaned script tags in theme.liquid or custom liquid after uninstalls. If the only failure is a consent overlay covering Add to cart / checkout, leave for cookie banner blocking checkout. If browser Network shows the embed loading but Meta Events Manager is quiet, leave for Meta CAPI events missing.
06
You tested theme editor publish fail, reviews, wishlist, cookie banner, or Meta CAPI instead.
Theme editor Save / Publish failing or changes not live is theme editor publish failing. Blank reviews widget on a product template is product reviews not showing. Dead wishlist / save-for-later button is wishlist button not working. Consent overlay covering buy / checkout is cookie banner blocking checkout. CAPI Purchase / AddToCart missing in Events Manager is Meta CAPI events missing.
The only honest test for this page: the app’s App embed / theme app extension is missing on the live storefront while the app is installed — prove Theme settings → App embeds on Current, Publish if you edited a draft, isolate conflicting scripts, hard-refresh logged-out. Anything else is a different product.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.
Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove App embeds on Current, enable the toggle, Publish the theme you edited, isolate conflicting scripts / consent, and stop confusing theme editor publish / reviews / wishlist / cookie banner / Meta CAPI with a missing embed. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Related pages: theme editor publish failing, product reviews not showing, wishlist button not working, cookie banner blocking checkout, Meta CAPI events missing.
Pay for help when the work is not the App embeds row — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in DMs, storefront and checkout-ready exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.
What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.
Other shops’ public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.
What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever embed-proof theme guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.
