Distinct from cart drawer / AJAX cart not updating, thank you / order status page upsell broken, theme agency vs ops install, and Shop Pay / accelerated checkout missing. 01

Variant picker / swatches — not cart drawer, thank you upsells, theme agency, or Shop Pay.

Several products can look like “something on the product page is broken.” They do not share a settings panel. This page is only when Shopify product variant picker or swatches do not update price, featured image, availability, or add-to-cart. A stale cart drawer after a successful add is cart drawer / AJAX cart not updating. Post-purchase upsells that never load are thank you / order status page upsell broken. Hiring a theme shop vs the install is theme agency vs ops install. Missing Shop Pay buttons are Shop Pay / accelerated checkout missing. This page is only: variant / swatch refresh on the product.

Seven ordinary reasons the picker looks dead: URL or variant id changed while price / image / ATC stayed on the first option, product-info or variant-select custom element unbound after a theme edit, variant media not assigned or wrong media IDs, combined listings / linked products with mismatched options, a swatch / quick-view / size-chart app overwriting theme listeners, console errors aborting the publish cycle, or you are debugging cart drawer / thank you upsells / theme agency quotes / Shop Pay instead. Walk them in that order. You already pay for Shopify. You do not need another swatch app seat to straighten the picker that already exists.

02

Prove the selected variant changed while price, image, or ATC stayed stuck.

On a product with two or more options, open DevTools → Network. Click a different swatch, size, or dropdown value. Confirm the address bar updates ?variant= (or the form’s id input changes). Inspect the product form’s hidden variant id. Screenshot price, featured image, sold-out badge, and Add to cart. Note whether those UI pieces stayed on the first option while the selected variant id moved.

Honest proof: if the variant id / URL changed and price, image, or ATC did not, stay on this page — that is a render / listener / media bug, not a missing product. If clicks never change the variant id at all, fix the option inputs / liquid / app markup first. If Add to cart works but the cart drawer stays stale, leave this page for cart drawer / AJAX cart not updating. If Shop Pay never appeared on the product, use Shop Pay / accelerated checkout missing. Do not mix those proofs.

03

Theme product JS, variant-select / product-info listeners, and media gallery.

Dawn-family and most Online Store 2.0 themes use variant-selects, product-info, or similar custom elements plus a publish / subscribe pattern: after an option change, the theme updates price, media, and ATC state. A theme edit that removed the custom element, deleted product-info.js / global.js includes, or broke the event name leaves the option click working while price and image never move.

Fix: in Theme editor / Code, confirm product form, variant picker, and media gallery sections (and their JS assets) are still on the live theme. Check console for uncaught errors on the product page right after a swatch click. Restore the stock product-info / variant-select snippets from the theme’s original version if a freelancer deleted the listener. A full theme redesign quote is still theme agency vs ops install— this page is the variant listener, not a brand job.

04

Combined listings, variant media IDs, and unavailable options.

Combined listings and multi-product option UIs can show swatches that do not map 1:1 to a single product’s variants. Variant media that was never assigned (or was assigned to the wrong variant) leaves the gallery on the first image forever. Sold-out or unavailable options that stay clickable without updating ATC look like a “broken picker” when inventory and option availability are the real issue.

Fix: in admin, open the product → Media and confirm each variant that should change the image has media assigned. Retest option availability with inventory at each location. If you use combined listings / linked products, confirm the live option values still match the connected SKUs after a catalog edit. Thank-you / order-status extension bugs after payment still belong on thank you page upsell broken— that is post-purchase, not the product picker.

05

Swatch / variant / quick-view apps fighting the theme.

Color swatch apps, custom variant pickers, size charts, quick-view modals, and sticky ATC bars often replace or wrap the theme’s variant change events. Two owners on the same option click can update the URL while neither price nor image refreshes — or one shows a stale quick-view. An app left installed after you switched back to native Dawn swatches is a common silent conflict.

Fix: disable swatch / variant / quick-view / sticky-ATC apps one at a time on a development theme. Retest option clicks with only the theme picker. Keep one owner. If the “broken” thing was actually the cart drawer after a successful add, leave this page for cart drawer / AJAX cart not updating. Wallet buttons that never appear are still Shop Pay missing— different product from a stuck variant UI.

06

Stale HTML, CDN / browser cache, and third-party script errors.

Aggressive browser extensions, stale service workers, and third-party scripts that throw on product pages can abort the theme’s variant publish before price and media update. A console red error from a pixel, reviews widget, or chat bubble right after a swatch click is a clue — the option may still change while the JS chain never reaches the price / gallery render.

Fix: retest in a clean browser profile with extensions off. Hard-refresh. Check Application → Service Workers if a PWA / offline app is installed on the storefront. Fix or defer the throwing third-party script. A theme redesign retainer is still theme agency vs ops— different product from a stuck picker after a successful option change.

07

You tested cart drawer, thank you upsells, theme agency, or Shop Pay instead.

Stale cart drawer / AJAX cart after add is cart drawer / AJAX cart not updating. Broken thank you / order status upsells are thank you page upsell broken. Theme redesign / agency retainers vs the install is theme agency vs ops install. Missing Shop Pay / accelerated checkout is Shop Pay / accelerated checkout missing.

The only honest test for this page: option click changes ?variant= / form id, Network / product JSON match the selected variant, price and media refresh, ATC reflects availability, console is clean through the publish cycle, and only one swatch / picker owner is installed. Anything else is a different product.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove variant id vs stuck UI, restore theme product JS / listeners, fix variant media and combined listings, and clear competing swatch apps. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Related pages: cart drawer / AJAX cart not updating, thank you page upsell broken, theme agency vs ops, Shop Pay / accelerated checkout missing.

Pay for help when the work is not the swatch toggle — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in DMs, storefront and checkout-ready exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.

What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.

Other shops’ public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.

What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, perfect variant pickers forever, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.
