Playbook · Shopify store locator / find a store missing

Shopify store locator missing.

Written for a Shopify DTC / retail owner whose store locator / find a store page or map widget never appears — store-locator apps unpublished or map API keys blank, Locations / Storefront API with no public retail address, theme sections or pages missing the map / store-list block on Current. DIY-first: prove apps vs Locations API vs theme sections; repair the live Find a store path; retest on the live storefront. Distinct from local pickup / BOPIS missing at checkout, checkout shipping rates missing or wrong, and delivery date / scheduled delivery picker missing. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

01

Store locator / find a store missing — not local pickup, not shipping rates, not delivery date.

Several location-adjacent controls can look like “find a store is broken.” They do not share a settings panel. This page is only when a store locator / find a store / store map page or widget never appears for buyers who should see retail locations (store-locator apps, Locations / Storefront API, theme sections or pages). Local pickup / buy online pickup in store at checkout or on PDP is shopify-local-pickup-not-showing. Checkout shipping rates missing or wrong are checkout-shipping-rates-wrong. Delivery date / scheduled delivery pickers are shopify-delivery-date-picker-missing. Multi-location inventory wrong (stock per location, not a public map) is multi-location-inventory-wrong. Organization / LocalBusiness schema missing on homepage (SEO Knowledge Panel, not a storefront map) is shopify-organization-schema-missing.

02

Prove store-locator apps vs Locations / Storefront API vs theme sections on a live page.

Open the live Find a store / Store locator URL (or the homepage / footer section that should show the map) on the live storefront — not only Theme editor preview. Capture four proofs before you install another locator app:

  1. Theme settings → App embeds: is the store locator / store finder / find-a-store app on Current? Online Store → Pages: is there a published Find a store / Locations page with the app block or section?
  2. Admin → Settings → Locations: do retail locations have a public address, city, and hours? Locations that exist only for fulfillment / warehouse / POS without a public address will not feed most locator widgets.
  3. App settings: Google Maps / Mapbox / Mapkit API key present, billing enabled, and domain allowlisted for your live shop hostname? Blank or restricted keys show an empty map shell.
  4. Theme Customize → Current → the page / section template: Store locator / Map / Locations section present and not draft-only? CSS / consent / chat overlays can also hide a mounted map.

If you only tested Pickup at checkout, a shipping rate table, or a delivery date calendar, you are on the wrong playbook. If inventory counts per location are wrong but the public map is fine, chase multi-location-inventory-wrong instead.

03

Store locator / find-a-store apps unpublished, wrong template, or map API key blank.

Most Shopify store locators are App embeds or theme app blocks from a store-finder / store-locator / “find a store” app, or a page that hosts that block. The embed can be off on Current, enabled only on a draft theme, pointed at a page handle that 404s, or waiting on a Maps API key that was never pasted / revoked / restricted to localhost. Duplicate locator apps often blank each other. A consent manager that holds marketing embeds can leave the map empty while the page shell loads.

Fix path: Theme settings → App embeds → enable one store locator app on Current → Save. Open the Find a store page → confirm the app block / section is on the published template. In the app admin, paste a valid Maps / Mapbox key with your live domain allowlisted. Disable duplicate locator apps. Retest the live URL. Generic App embeds failing across many apps is app-embed-not-loading. Theme editor publish / save failures are theme-editor-publish-failing.

04

Shopify Locations / Storefront API have no public address, hours, or active retail location.

Locator widgets that sync from Shopify Locations (or a Storefront / Admin API locations query) need at least one active location with a public street address. Warehouse-only, fulfillment-only, or POS locations without address / city / country fields produce an empty list even when inventory exists. Apps that mirror location metafields (hours, phone, store photo) go blank when those metafields were never filled or Markets catalogs hide the retail location. Deactivated locations still show in admin history but stop appearing on the storefront map.

Fix path: Settings → Locations → open each retail store → fill address, phone, and hours (or the metafields your locator app documents) → keep the location active → Save. In the locator app, re-sync locations. Retest the live map. Stock counts wrong per location (not a public map) is multi-location-inventory-wrong. POS till not syncing online is shopify-pos-inventory-not-syncing.

05

Theme sections / pages never mount the map or store list on Current.

Some themes ship a native Store locator / Map / Locations section, or merchants add one via a page template. That section can be removed from the live page.json, present only on a draft theme, restricted to a Markets country the buyer is not in, or hidden by CSS (height:0, display:none, overflow under sticky header / chat). Navigation that never links to /pages/find-a-store (or the handle you published) makes a working locator look “missing” because shoppers cannot reach it.

Fix path: Customize Current theme → open the Find a store page (or home / footer) → add or re-enable the Store locator / Map section → Save / Publish Current. Online Store → Navigation: add a menu item to the published page handle. DevTools: if the map node exists but is invisible, remove the CSS hide. Retest live. Soft 404 / thin pages that Google drops are a different SEO product — for sold-out products see shopify-soft-404-sold-out. Cookie / privacy banners that block map scripts are cookie-banner-blocking-checkout adjacent — prove consent allows the map embed category.

06

You tested local pickup, shipping rates, or delivery date instead.

Local pickup / BOPIS missing at checkout or on PDP is shopify-local-pickup-not-showing. Checkout shipping rates missing or wrong is checkout-shipping-rates-wrong. Delivery date / scheduled delivery picker missing is shopify-delivery-date-picker-missing. Multi-location inventory wrong is multi-location-inventory-wrong. Organization / LocalBusiness schema missing (SEO, not a map widget) is shopify-organization-schema-missing.

The only honest test for this page: store locator / find a store page or map widget is missing on a live storefront that should show retail locations — fixable with one published locator app or theme section, Locations with public address / hours, a valid Maps API key, and a reachable page / nav link — not pickup at checkout alone, not shipping rates alone, not delivery date alone. Capture apps + Locations + theme sections, fix the path. Anything else is a different product.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if the locator App embed or theme section is on Current, Locations have public address and hours, the Maps API key works on your live domain, and the Find a store page is linked in nav — and the map / store list now shows on a live URL. That is ordinary Shopify admin + theme work.

Pay $997 when the gap is wiring: lead capture, ops alerts, and a checkout-ready workflow on the stack you already pay for, installed in 72 hours after collaborator access lands. Latch does not sell an earnings, foot-traffic, or store-visit number. Latch does not rebuild your theme’s map Liquid as a design agency. One live store. Clock starts when collaborator access is in.
