Playbook · Shopify back to top not showing

You scrolled. The back-to-top button never appeared.

Written for a Shopify owner whose back to top is not showing — scroll-to-top / back-to-top control never appears after scroll, stays hidden, or mounts but is buried under sticky chrome — or you chased a sticky header that will not pin, a failing sticky add-to-cart bar, or a missing announcement bar instead. DIY-first: prove section toggle vs scroll threshold vs z-index vs JS listener → repair → retest. Distinct from sticky header not sticking and sticky add to cart failing. Soft-link announcement bar not showing when the promo bar is missing. Soft-link mobile nav stuck when the drawer is frozen. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

01

Back to top not showing — not sticky header, not sticky ATC.

Several “scroll / sticky / chrome” bugs look alike. They do not share a fix. This page is only when a back-to-top / scroll-to-top button never appears after scroll, stays hidden, or mounts but is unusable. Sticky / fixed header mounts but scrolls away is shopify-sticky-header-not-sticking. PDP sticky buy bar mounts but /cart/add fails is shopify-sticky-add-to-cart-failing.

Soft-check shopify-announcement-bar-not-showing when the promo bar is missing or stuck closed, and soft-link shopify-mobile-nav-stuck when the drawer is frozen — not when the scroll-to-top control itself simply never shows after scroll.

02

Prove section toggle vs scroll threshold vs z-index vs JS listener.

On Current theme (not a draft), open a long homepage / collection / PDP in incognito. Scroll past the fold where the back-to-top control should appear. Soft-check theme section / enable-back-to-top / show-scroll-to-top toggle on Current. Soft-check scroll threshold / offset setting never reached. Soft-check z-index buried under sticky header / sticky ATC / cookie banner. Soft-check CSS display:none / opacity:0 / visibility:hidden / pointer-events:none. Soft-check JS scroll listener / IntersectionObserver never attached (theme JS error). Soft-check App embeds for scroll-to-top apps off. Soft-check mobile vs desktop visibility. Soft-check duplicate back-to-top sections fighting.

Capture: page URL + section name, scroll screenshot on desktop and phone showing no button, theme back-to-top toggle screenshot, scroll threshold setting, z-index stack vs sticky chrome, Console JS errors, App embeds toggle state, and mobile/desktop visibility on Current.

03

Repair section / threshold / z-index / JS; retest back to top.

Enable back-to-top on Current theme settings and publish. Lower scroll threshold so the button appears after a normal scroll. Raise button z-index above sticky header / ATC / cookie banner. Remove CSS that hides the control. Fix theme JS errors so the scroll listener fires. Soft-check App embeds. Soft-check mobile/desktop visibility. Soft-check duplicate sections. Publish Current, hard-refresh desktop and phone.

Honest retest: after scroll, the control appears and returns to top on click — not only one viewport broken. Soft-link shopify-sticky-header-not-sticking when the header itself will not pin. Soft-link shopify-sticky-add-to-cart-failing when the PDP sticky buy bar mounts but /cart/add fails. Soft-link shopify-announcement-bar-not-showing when the promo bar is missing.

04

You tested sticky header, sticky ATC, or announcement bar instead.

Sticky / fixed header mounts but scrolls away is shopify-sticky-header-not-sticking. PDP sticky buy bar mounts but /cart/add fails is shopify-sticky-add-to-cart-failing. Promo / announcement bar missing or stuck closed is shopify-announcement-bar-not-showing. Mobile drawer open but frozen is shopify-mobile-nav-stuck.

The only honest test for this page: a back-to-top / scroll-to-top control should appear after scroll, but never does — while sticky header / sticky ATC / announcement bar paths may still work.

05

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove section toggle vs scroll threshold vs z-index vs JS listener, soft-check apps, repair, retest. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Related pages: sticky header not sticking, sticky add to cart failing, announcement bar not showing.

Pay for help when the work is not the back-to-top control itself — it is connecting the stack you already have so storefront / theme / back-to-top exception alerts land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.

What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.

Other shops' public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.

What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever back-to-top guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.

Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
