Playbook · Translate & Adapt / Markets language missing strings
Shopify Translate & Adapt / Markets language missing strings or English fallback on storefront.
Written for a Shopify DTC owner whose Translate & Adapt or Markets language setup still shows missing strings or English fallback on the live storefront — usually theme or app translation rows are empty, the market is not assigned that locale, the buyer hits the primary English URL, or you translated a draft theme while Current stayed live. DIY-first: prove language + market coverage, fill Translate & Adapt rows for theme and apps on Current, fix the language switcher / market domain, hard-refresh logged-out. Distinct from Markets currency / price wrong for country, product metafields / custom fields not showing, theme editor publish / save failing, and app embed / theme app extension not loading. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

Missing strings / English fallback — not Markets currency, metafields, theme editor publish, app embed.
Several products can look like “my store is still in English.” They do not share a settings panel. This page is only when localized storefront copy is missing, blank, or falls back to English while the buyer is on a non-primary language market. Wrong currency or price for a country is Markets currency wrong. Blank product metafields / custom fields are product metafields not showing. Theme editor Save / Publish refusing or edits never going live is theme editor publish failing. A missing app embed or theme app extension is app embed not loading. This page is only: Translate & Adapt / Markets language missing strings or English fallback on the storefront.
Six ordinary reasons strings stay English or blank: the target language was never added (or not assigned to that Market), theme Translate & Adapt rows are still empty, app / checkout / system strings were skipped, the buyer hits the primary English domain or a language switcher that never sets locale, you translated a draft theme while Current stayed live, or you are debugging Markets currency / metafields / theme editor publish / app embed instead. Walk them in that order. You already pay for Shopify Markets and Translate & Adapt. You do not need another seat to fill missing translation rows.
02
Prove Translate & Adapt language coverage and Markets locale / domain.
Settings → Languages (or Translate & Adapt). Confirm the target language exists and is published for the storefront. Settings → Markets → open the country / region buyers use → Languages / domains. Confirm that market is assigned the language you expect and note the market URL or subdomain / path buyers should hit. Open Translate & Adapt for Theme and for installed apps — incomplete % coverage is the usual smoking gun.
Honest proof: if the language is missing, the market is not assigned that locale, coverage is incomplete, or the buyer URL is still the primary English domain, stay on this page. If prices / currency / rounding are wrong while language looks fine, leave for Markets currency wrong. If Save / Publish itself fails with a JSON / app-block toast, leave for theme editor publish failing. If an App embeds toggle is off and a whole app UI is missing in every language, leave for app embed not loading. If only a product metafield / custom field is blank in every language, leave for product metafields not showing. Do not mix those proofs.
03
Untranslated theme or app strings (Translate & Adapt rows still empty).
Adding a language does not auto-fill every theme section, cart drawer label, announcement bar, product template string, or third-party app string. Translate & Adapt shows coverage %. Empty or “default” rows fall back to the primary language — usually English — so French / German / Spanish buyers still see English buttons, “Add to cart,” filters, or app widgets.
Fix: open Translate & Adapt → Theme → filter Incomplete / Untranslated. Fill or auto-translate missing rows for the Current theme. Repeat for Apps that render storefront UI (reviews, wishlist, size chart, cookie banner, search). Save. Product / collection / page content also needs translation in Translate & Adapt or Markets content — a translated theme with English product titles still looks “stuck in English.” Do not confuse that with blank metafields that never print even in English — product metafields not showing.
04
Markets language fallback to primary English — or wrong market URL / switcher.
Shopify serves the primary language when the visitor is not on a market that includes the secondary language, when the language switcher is broken / hidden, or when geolocation + domain routing never lands them on the localized URL. Testing from your English home market while assuming buyers see FR/DE is a common false pass. Incomplete Markets language settings also force fallback even when Translate & Adapt coverage looks high in admin.
Fix: Markets → assign the language to the target market, publish the market domain / path / subdomain you market in ads and email, and verify the theme language / country selector actually switches locale (not only currency). Open the exact market URL buyers use in logged-out Incognito with a VPN or country cookie if needed. Hard refresh. If currency / price is wrong while language is correct, leave for Markets currency wrong. If Save / Publish of the theme fails while you edit templates, leave for theme editor publish failing.
05
You translated a draft theme while Current stayed live — or apps never included.
Translate & Adapt theme strings are per theme. Filling rows on an unpublished copy makes the editor preview look perfect — then buyers still see English on Current. Staff with limited Themes permissions may edit a copy but not Publish. Separately: apps that inject storefront UI keep their own translation catalogs — translating only the theme leaves review widgets, wishlists, size charts, and cookie banners in English.
Fix: Themes list — translate the Current / Published theme, or Publish the theme you translated after Save. Have an owner / full Themes role publish if your staff login cannot. Open Translate & Adapt → Apps and complete incomplete app catalogs that appear on the marketed templates. Retest logged-out Incognito on the market URL and on a phone. Hard refresh. If a whole app embed is missing in every language (toggle off), leave for app embed not loading.
06
You tested Markets currency, product metafields, theme editor publish, or app embed instead.
Markets currency / price wrong for a country is Markets currency wrong. Product metafields / custom fields blank on the product page is product metafields not showing. Theme editor Save / Publish failing or changes not live is theme editor publish failing. App embed / theme app extension missing on the live storefront is app embed not loading.
The only honest test for this page: Translate & Adapt / Markets language leaves missing strings or English fallback on the live storefront — prove language + market assignment, fill theme and app translation rows on Current, fix market URL / language switcher, hard-refresh logged-out. Anything else is a different product.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.
Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove the target language and Markets assignment, fill Translate & Adapt theme + app rows on Current, fix the market domain / language switcher, Publish the theme you translated, and stop confusing Markets currency / metafields / theme editor publish / app embed with English fallback. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Related pages: Markets currency wrong, product metafields not showing, theme editor publish failing, app embed not loading.
Pay for help when the work is not the Translate & Adapt row — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in DMs, storefront and checkout-ready exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.
What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.
Other shops’ public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.
What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever localization-proof theme guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.
Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
