Shopify tax-inclusive pricing showing wrong VAT-included prices.
Written for a Shopify owner or ops lead whose tax-inclusive / VAT-included product or cart prices on the storefront disagree with checkout. DIY-first: prove storefront inclusive price vs checkout tax display; inspect include-tax-in-price and Markets tax settings; fix theme money.format / cart.show_taxes; stop treating tax override Save failures, currency converter bugs, Markets Pro duties, or missing duties as the same bug. Distinct from tax override not saving, currency converter wrong, Markets Pro duties mismatch, and duties / import taxes missing. Soft-link tax wrong at checkout when Estimated tax rate / nexus is wrong but inclusive vs exclusive display is already consistent. No earnings claims, no conversion-lift math, no invented case studies.

Tax-inclusive / VAT prices wrong storefront vs checkout — not tax override, currency converter, Markets Pro duties, or duties missing.
Several “tax or price looks wrong” bugs look alike. They do not share one fix. This page is only when tax-inclusive / VAT-included prices on the storefront disagree with how checkout shows tax (included vs exclusive, or tax added twice). When tax overrides fail to Save or apply, open tax override not saving. When the Markets / theme currency converter shows the wrong currency or presentment amount, open currency converter wrong. When Markets Pro / managed markets duties or landed cost do not match, open Markets Pro duties mismatch. When duties / import taxes / DDP are missing, open duties / import taxes missing. When Estimated tax rate, nexus, or product tax codes are wrong but inclusive display is already consistent storefront ↔ checkout, open tax wrong at checkout. This page is only: inclusive / VAT display mismatch storefront vs checkout.
Six ordinary reasons inclusive prices stay wrong: Settings → Taxes “include tax in product prices” off (or on) while the Market expects the opposite; Markets tax include/exclude per country fighting the shop default; theme money.format / cart.show_taxes hard-coding exclusive prices; tax/VAT badge apps rewriting Liquid without cart taxes_included; cart.js showing tax-excluded while checkout is inclusive (or the reverse); shipping tax included on one surface and excluded on the other. Walk them in that order. You already pay for Shopify Tax / Markets. You do not need another VAT SaaS to prove storefront and checkout can agree on inclusive display.
02
Prove storefront tax-inclusive price differs from checkout.
Open the live storefront in the affected Market or VAT region. Screenshot product and cart money (amount, “incl. VAT” / tax badge, any tax line). Proceed to checkout with the same cart; screenshot line items, tax line, and total. In DevTools note cart.js taxes_included / tax_lines, theme cart.show_taxes, and checkout tax display. Confirm you are on the correct Market URL — not a cached primary-market exclusive-price view.
If currency code/symbol is wrong but tax-inclusive mode matches, leave for currency converter wrong. If duties/landed cost differ, leave for Markets Pro duties mismatch or duties / import taxes missing. If inclusive display already matches but the tax rate itself is wrong, leave for tax wrong at checkout.
03
Repair include-tax-in-price, Markets tax display, theme money.format, and tax apps.
Align Settings → Taxes and duties “include tax in product prices” (or regional VAT inclusive) with how you sell. Align Settings → Markets → each Market’s tax include vs exclude with that shop default. Fix theme money.format / cart.show_taxes / tax-included badges so they read cart taxes_included instead of hard-coding exclusive (or inclusive) copy. Disable or reconfigure tax/VAT display apps that rewrite Liquid prices without updating cart tax mode. Soft note: override Save failures are tax override not saving; currency presentment is currency converter wrong; duties are Markets Pro duties mismatch / duties missing; nexus/rate with consistent inclusive display is tax wrong at checkout.
Latch’s 72-hour install is ops wiring on the live store — not a conversion-lift guarantee and not a tax-agency retainer.

Checklist and how to prove storefront and checkout match.
Checklist: (1) screenshot storefront inclusive/VAT price, (2) screenshot checkout tax display for the same cart, (3) confirm include-tax-in-price + Markets tax include/exclude, (4) fix theme money.format / cart.show_taxes, (5) isolate tax/VAT display apps, (6) recheck shipping-tax include mode, (7) if override Save / currency / duties / nexus rate remain wrong, switch playbooks.
Prove it: after the fix, storefront tax-inclusive amount and labels for a SKU must match checkout tax display for the same Market and cart (no double tax, no surprise exclusive→inclusive jump). If only duties differ, open Markets Pro duties mismatch.
05
You tested tax override, currency converter, Markets Pro duties, duties missing, or tax rate/nexus instead.
Tax overrides not saving is tax override not saving. Markets / theme currency converter wrong presentment is currency converter wrong. Markets Pro duties / landed cost mismatch is Markets Pro duties mismatch. Duties / import taxes / DDP missing is duties / import taxes missing. Estimated tax rate / nexus / product tax codes wrong with consistent inclusive display is tax wrong at checkout. None of those fix tax-inclusive / VAT prices that disagree between storefront and checkout.
Finish prove storefront vs checkout → include-tax-in-price / Markets tax display → theme money.format isolation first. Only then open the related playbook that matches the remaining symptom.
