Playbook · Shopify duties / import taxes missing at checkout

Shopify duties / import taxes missing at checkout — DDP, Markets Pro, duties apps, shipping profiles.

Written for a Shopify owner or ops lead whose duties / import taxes / DDP do not show at checkout for an international Markets buyer — usually Markets Pro or a duties app is not collecting for that country, products lack HS codes / country of origin, shipping profiles only offer DAP, or tax settings hide the duties line. DIY-first: prove Markets and Taxes and duties, prove product customs data, prove shipping profiles and DDP, then run one international test checkout. Distinct from Shopify Tax / sales tax wrong at checkout, Markets currency / price wrong, and checkout shipping rates wrong. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

Duties / import taxes missing — not domestic sales tax, not Markets currency.

Several products can look like “checkout totals are wrong for international.” They do not share a settings panel. This page is only when Duties / import taxes / Estimated duties are missing or $0 on an international address where you expect DDP / landed cost — Markets Pro or duties app off, missing HS / origin, shipping profile DAP-only, or tax settings hiding duties. Domestic sales tax wrong or missing for nexus states is Shopify Tax / sales tax wrong at checkout. Wrong country currency or converted price is Markets currency wrong. Missing / wrong carrier rates are checkout shipping rates wrong. This page is only: Shopify duties / import taxes missing at checkout for international Markets.

Six ordinary reasons duties stay missing: Markets Pro (or your duties app) not collecting for that country, products without HS codes or country of origin, shipping profile that only offers DAP / buyer-pays-at-door, Markets duties toggle off, tax settings that do not surface a duties line, or you are debugging domestic sales tax / currency / carrier rates instead. Walk them in that order. You already pay for Shopify. You do not need another duties SaaS to read Markets, Taxes and duties, and one international test checkout.

02

Prove Markets Pro / duties apps and HS / country of origin.

Shopify only estimates and collects duties where you enable a landed-cost path. Markets Pro (or a third-party duties app) must be active for the buyer country, and products usually need HS codes and country of origin so the calculator has something to rate. If Markets shows the country but duties collection is off, or the duties app is installed but not enabled on Online Store / checkout, the Duties line never appears — that is configuration, not a broken checkout. Open Settings → Markets → the market for the buyer country, and Settings → Taxes and duties.

Honest proof: open a product → shipping / customs (HS code, country of origin). Fix blank or obviously wrong values. Place a test checkout to a known international address in a market where you intend to sell DDP, with a taxable physical product and no discount. Read whether Duties / import taxes appears. Then compare to a domestic address — domestic sales tax is sales tax wrong at checkout, not this page. This playbook is not customs / legal advice on what you owe; it is the settings path that makes the duties line appear when you intend to collect DDP.

03

Shipping profiles, DDP vs DAP, and tax settings that hide duties.

Shipping profiles and delivery customizations decide whether the buyer sees a DDP (duties paid) path or DAP / DDU (duties unpaid at the door). A profile that only offers international rates without duties collection, a Markets setting that leaves duties to the carrier, or a duties app that requires a specific shipping method you never attached will leave checkout without a duties total even when HS codes look correct. Tax settings that include / exclude tax in price are not the same as duties — leave domestic nexus tax for sales tax wrong at checkout.

Honest proof: Settings → Shipping and delivery → open the profile that covers the international zone. Confirm the rates / carriers you expect for DDP are present and linked to your duties path (Markets Pro or duties app docs). Settings → Markets → duties / landed cost for that country: on. Retest with the same international address. Carrier rate silence (no shipping options at all) is checkout shipping rates wrong— a missing shipping option is not a missing duties line. Wrong currency symbol or converted price is Markets currency wrong.

04

You tested domestic sales tax, Markets currency, or shipping rates instead.

Domestic nexus / sales tax wrong or missing is Shopify Tax / sales tax wrong at checkout. Wrong currency / converted price is Markets currency wrong. Missing carrier rates are checkout shipping rates wrong. Markets hreflang / language URLs are Markets hreflang wrong. None of those fix Markets Pro / duties app off, blank HS / origin, or a shipping profile that never offers DDP.

Finish the duties proofs first. Only then open the related playbook that matches the remaining symptom.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: enable Markets Pro or your duties app for the countries you intend, fill HS codes and country of origin, attach DDP-capable shipping profiles, confirm Taxes and duties / Markets toggles, prove one international and one domestic checkout, and stop confusing domestic sales tax / currency / carrier rates with a duties failure. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Pay for help when the work is not the Markets duties toggle — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in DMs, storefront and checkout-ready exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.

What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.

Other shops’ public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.

What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever duties-compliance guarantee, customs legal advice, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.

Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
