Product image zoom / lightbox broken — not product tabs, not size chart, not sticky ATC, not wishlist, not recently viewed.
Several PDP blocks can look like “the product media is broken.” They do not share a settings panel. This page is only when click-to-zoom, hover magnifier, or lightbox never opens on the featured image / media gallery (theme media gallery settings, zoom/lightbox apps, CSS/JS, touch). Product description tabs / accordion missing is shopify-product-tabs-not-showing. Size chart / fit guide missing is shopify-size-chart-not-showing. Sticky / floating add to cart missing is shopify-sticky-add-to-cart-missing. Wishlist button missing is shopify-wishlist-button-missing. Recently viewed blank is shopify-recently-viewed-not-showing. Broken CDN product images (404 / blank img) is cdn-shopify-images-not-loading, not “zoom does nothing.”
If the gallery thumbnails still swap the featured image but click / hover never enlarges, you are on the right page. If the image itself is missing or 404s, leave this playbook.
02
Prove theme media gallery vs apps vs CSS/JS vs touch on the live storefront.
Open a live PDP in a logged-out window (not only Theme editor preview). Capture four facts before you change anything:
- Click, double-click, and hover the featured image. Does a lightbox, modal, or magnifier lens appear? On mobile, tap and pinch — same result?
- Customize → product template → Media / Product information / Product media: is Enable image zoom / Click to enlarge / Lightbox / Magnify on for the Current theme and the template this product uses (not a draft theme)?
- Theme settings → App embeds: any zoom, lightbox, magic zoom, or gallery app on Current? Two apps both claiming the featured image?
- DevTools Console on image click: JS errors? Computed style on the featured image wrapper: pointer-events, overflow, z-index, overlay covering the image?
Write the path: theme setting off · app embed off or fighting · CSS/JS block · touch-only failure. Fix that path. Do not rebuild the whole gallery first.
03
Theme media gallery / Product information zoom or click-to-enlarge off, draft-only, or wrong template.
Dawn-family and many OS 2.0 themes put zoom / lightbox behind a section setting on Media or Product information: Enable image zoom, Click to enlarge, Open in lightbox, Hover to zoom, or similar. Common misses: setting left off after a theme copy, enabled only on a draft theme while Current stays off, product assigned to an alternate JSON template without the Media block, or “zoom” only on desktop while mobile uses a different media layout with zoom disabled.
Fix path: Online Store → Themes → Customize on Current → open the product template this SKU uses → Media / Product information → turn on zoom / click to enlarge / lightbox → Save. Confirm the product uses that template (product admin → Theme template). Retest live, logged-out, desktop and mobile. If the theme has no native zoom and you expected an app, that is the apps section — not a missing theme toggle.
04
Zoom / lightbox app embed off, or two gallery / zoom apps fighting on Current.
Zoom / Magic Zoom / lightbox / advanced gallery apps usually need App embeds on for the Current theme, plus a theme app block on the product template. Common fights: embed off after a theme switch, two zoom apps both binding click on the same featured image (one wins and breaks), gallery app replacing the theme media section while zoom still targets the old selector, or an app expecting its own product media block that was removed.
Fix path: Theme settings → App embeds → enable exactly one intended zoom / lightbox embed on Current; disable the rest. Add / keep the app block on the live product template. In the app admin, confirm the storefront is connected and the product is not excluded. Retest. If the app never injects scripts, companion page is app-embed-not-loading.
05
CSS / JS conflicts, overlays, pointer-events, or touch handlers block zoom and lightbox.
The featured image can render while zoom never fires. Common CSS fights: custom CSS setting pointer-events:none on media / gallery / zoom wrappers, an invisible sticky ATC / chat / cookie / sale badge overlay covering the image (high z-index), overflow:hidden clipping the magnifier lens or lightbox, or display:none on .zoom / .pswp / .fancybox / lightbox roots. Common JS fights: theme gallery JS never binding after a section re-render, a second library stealing click, Console TypeError on image click, or jQuery-dependent zoom after the theme dropped jQuery.
Touch-specific: themes that only listen to mouseenter for hover zoom (no tap path), passive touch listeners blocking preventDefault for pinch, or mobile media layout swapping to a carousel that never mounts zoom. Fix path: DevTools → select the featured image → check overlays above it and Computed pointer-events / z-index. Temporarily disable custom CSS that targets gallery / zoom / media. Watch Console on click. Retest with mouse and with a real phone (not only responsive mode). If Liquid throws on the product template, that is liquid-error-on-product-page, not “zoom silent.”

You tested product tabs, size chart, sticky ATC, wishlist, or recently viewed instead.
Product description tabs / accordion missing on PDP is shopify-product-tabs-not-showing. Size chart / fit guide not showing on PDP is shopify-size-chart-not-showing. Sticky / floating add to cart missing on mobile PDP is shopify-sticky-add-to-cart-missing. Wishlist / save for later button missing is shopify-wishlist-button-missing. Recently viewed products section blank or missing is shopify-recently-viewed-not-showing.
The only honest test for this page: product image zoom / lightbox not working on PDP — fixable with live media gallery zoom settings, one intended App embed on Current, and CSS / JS / touch that does not block click, hover, or tap — not product tabs alone, not size chart alone, not sticky ATC alone, not wishlist alone, not recently viewed alone. Capture theme gallery + apps + CSS/JS + touch, fix the path. Anything else is a different product.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.
Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove theme media gallery vs apps vs CSS/JS vs touch, enable zoom / click-to-enlarge on Current product templates, keep one zoom embed, fix overlays and broken gallery JS, and stop confusing product tabs / size chart / sticky ATC / wishlist / recently viewed with broken image zoom. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Pay for help when the work is not the image zoom — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in DMs, storefront and checkout-ready exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.
What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a zoom-app rebuild, not an earnings number.
Other shops' public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or image-zoom-uptime guarantee.
What it does not buy: more orders, recovered PDP engagement, a forever image-zoom-uptime guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.
