Playbook · Shopify Magic / AI generate failing or blank

Shopify Magic AI product description or image generate failing or blank.

Written for a Shopify DTC owner whose Shopify Magic / admin AI product description or image generate spinner fails, returns blank copy, never saves media, or the Magic button is missing or greyed out — usually plan / trial limits on admin AI features, staff missing Products / Media permissions, browser extensions or ad blockers killing Magic requests, network / CSP failures in admin, or confusing this with theme editor publish / app embeds / metafields / Hydrogen. DIY-first: prove plan + permissions, prove Magic feature availability, prove clean browser + successful admin AI requests, prove generated description or image saves on the product. Distinct from theme editor publish failing, app embed not loading, product metafields not showing, and Hydrogen storefront blank or error. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

Shopify Magic / AI generate failing — not theme publish, app embed, metafields, Hydrogen.

Several products can look like “Shopify AI is broken.” They do not share a settings panel. This page is only when Shopify Magic / admin AI product description or image generate fails or returns blank inside the Shopify admin product / media UI. Theme Save / Publish that never goes live is theme-editor-publish-failing. A storefront app embed that never loads is app-embed-not-loading. Custom fields / dynamic sources blank on the PDP is product-metafields-not-showing. A Hydrogen / Oxygen storefront blank or deploy error is hydrogen-storefront-blank-or-error. This page is only: Shopify Magic / AI product description or image generate failing or blank.

Six ordinary reasons Magic stays dead: the plan or trial does not include the Magic / AI feature you clicked (or the free quota is exhausted), the staff account cannot edit products / media, the Magic control is missing because you are on the wrong admin surface (legacy product editor vs new), a browser extension / ad blocker / corporate proxy kills the admin AI request, the generate call returns an error you only see in Network / Console, or you are debugging theme publish / app embed / metafields / Hydrogen instead. Walk them in that order. You already pay for Shopify. You do not need another AI copy SaaS to prove Magicsave on one product.

02

Prove plan, staff permissions, and Magic / AI feature availability.

Confirm your Shopify plan and any Magic / Sidekick / AI feature flags Shopify currently documents for your shop — including remaining free generations if the UI shows a quota. Open the product as a staff account that can create and edit products and product media. If Magic is only offered on the new product editor, switch to that surface instead of hunting a button that never existed on the legacy form.

Honest proof: screenshot plan / AI feature availability (or quota remaining), staff Products + Media permissions, and the Magic / Generate control visible on the product description or media panel you are testing. If the control is absent for every staff user, stop treating this as a theme or metafield bug — it is plan / feature availability. Theme Save failures stay on theme-editor-publish-failing.

03

Prove browser, extensions, and admin AI requests; regenerate and save.

Retry in a private window with extensions disabled (ad blockers, privacy tools, and some password managers break admin AI XHR). Avoid VPN / corporate SSL inspection that rewrites Shopify admin responses. Open DevTools → Network while you click Generate: prove the Magic / AI request returns 200 with content, not blocked, CORS, 401/403, or empty body. Then save the product and reload — generated description or media that never persists is not “Magic worked.”

Honest proof: private-window generate succeeds, Network shows a successful admin AI response, description or image is present after Save + reload, and a second staff user can see the same result. Storefront app embeds that never load belong on app-embed-not-loading. Blank custom fields on the live PDP belong on product-metafields-not-showing. Hydrogen / Oxygen blank pages stay on hydrogen-storefront-blank-or-error.

04

You tested theme publish, app embed, metafields, or Hydrogen instead.

Theme editor Save / Publish failing is theme-editor-publish-failing. App embed / theme app extension missing on storefront is app-embed-not-loading. Product metafields / dynamic sources blank is product-metafields-not-showing. Hydrogen / Oxygen blank or deploy error is hydrogen-storefront-blank-or-error. None of those replace proving plan + Magic feature availability, staff Products / Media permissions, clean browser without blockers, successful admin AI Network responses, and Save + reload of the generated description or image.

Finish the Shopify Magic / admin AI proofs first. Only then open the related playbook that matches the remaining symptom.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove plan / Magic feature availability and quota, prove staff can edit products and media, prove Magic on the correct admin surface, prove a clean browser without blockers, prove admin AI Network success, Save + reload the generated description or image, and stop confusing theme publish / app embed / metafields / Hydrogen with this admin AI path. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Pay for help when the work is not the Magic checklist — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in a tab, checkout and ops exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.

What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not an AI copywriting retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.

Other shops’ public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.

What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever Shopify Magic SLA, a custom AI copywriting retainer, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.

Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
