Shopify gift card balance wrong — not updating after purchase or redemption at checkout.
Written for a Shopify owner or ops lead whose gift card remaining balance is wrong, stale, or not updating after a purchase issues the card or after a buyer redeems it at checkout. DIY-first: prove Products → Gift cards ledger vs the order’s gift-card payment line; separate purchase issuance from redemption apply; check Markets currency, disabled/expired flags, and third-party gift-card apps; stop treating gift card product purchase failure, refund-to-store-credit, or store credit / account credit at checkout as the same bug. Distinct from gift card purchase failing, refund to store credit failing, and store credit not applying. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

Gift card balance wrong — not purchase fail, refund-to-store-credit, or store credit apply.
Several money products can look like “the balance is wrong.” They do not share a fix. This page is only when a Shopify gift card’s remaining balance is incorrect or does not update after purchase issuance or after redemption at checkout. The Gift card product never creates a usable card / email never delivers is gift card purchase failing. Refund → Store credit never posts account credit after a return is refund to store credit failing. Native or app store credit / account credit that will not apply at checkout is store credit not applying. A storefront balance-check page / customer lookup UI that is blank or broken (while admin balance is fine) is gift card balance check broken.
Gift card balance wrong is a ledger + redemption apply + Markets / app sync problem on the gift card itself — not purchase delivery alone, not refund-to-store-credit issuance, and not store credit wallet apply.
02
Prove admin ledger vs checkout redemption vs purchase issuance vs store credit wallet.
Open Products → Gift cards (or the third-party gift-card app ledger). Capture: code last-4 / ID, initial value, current balance, disabled / expired / note fields, currency, last transaction timestamps, and whether the card was created by purchase, manual issue, or API/app.
Split the surfaces. Buyer paid for a Gift card product but no card / wrong face value never issued → gift card purchase failing. Checkout applied a gift card code but admin balance did not drop (or dropped the wrong amount) → this page. Checkout used store credit / account credit instead of a gift card code → store credit not applying if credit will not apply, or a different wallet entirely if credit did apply. Refund path that should create store credit (not mutate a gift card) → refund to store credit failing.
Note Markets carefully. A gift card issued in USD redeemed on a CAD / EUR market, a multi-currency presentment mismatch, or a gift-card app that stores balances outside Shopify’s native ledger will show “wrong” remaining balance even when the redemption line on the order looks plausible. Confirm currency and which system is source of truth.
03
Fix issuance sync, redemption apply, Markets currency, disabled/expired, app conflicts.
If purchase never created a usable card, finish digital fulfillment / Gift card created notification / clear fraud or Flow holds on the purchase order (then return here once a card exists). For wrong-after-redemption: open the order → payment lines and confirm the gift card amount applied; refresh Products → Gift cards and match the decrement. Re-enable disabled cards; do not test with expired codes. Align Markets currency / presentment with the card’s issue currency. Disable or correct third-party gift-card apps that shadow or delay native ledger updates.
Partial apply is normal when cart total is less than remaining balance — prove the leftover equals admin balance after tax / shipping rules. If checkout never offers Gift card as a payment method but store credit fields appear, you are on the wrong product (store credit not applying).
Retest: buy or manually issue a test card → note initial balance → redeem a known amount at checkout → admin remaining balance matches (initial − applied) within seconds, same currency.

Checklist and how to prove the gift card balance matches checkout.
- Card exists in Products → Gift cards (or app ledger) with correct initial value and currency after purchase/manual issue.
- Card is not disabled or expired; code/PIN format matches what checkout accepts.
- Checkout order shows a gift card payment line for the expected amount (not store credit alone).
- Admin remaining balance = initial − sum of successful redemptions (accounting for partial apply and refunds that restore gift card balance when configured).
- Markets / multi-currency and third-party gift-card apps are not shadowing or delaying the native ledger.
- Retest: purchase or issue → redeem → admin balance matches within the same currency.
Proof is before/after screenshots of the gift card ledger next to the order’s gift-card payment line — not a purchase-email screenshot alone, not a store credit wallet, and not a blank balance-check page UI.
05
You tested purchase fail, store credit, refund-to-credit, or balance-check page instead.
Common misfires: gift card purchase failing (card never issued / not delivered), refund to store credit failing (return refund path, not gift card ledger), store credit not applying (account credit wallet at checkout), gift card balance check broken (lookup page UI while admin balance is correct), and gift card email not sending. Fix the ledger and redemption apply here when the balance itself is wrong or stale.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.
Stay DIY when the wrong balance is a one-time issuance, Markets, disabled/expired, or app conflict you can clear from this checklist. Pay when the work is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in DMs, gift-card balance / redemption exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.
What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not an upsell retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.
Other shops’ public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or gift-card-liability claim.
What it does not buy: recovered gift card liability, more completed checkouts, a gift-card SaaS, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.
Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
