Playbook · Product reviews not showing
Shopify product reviews widget blank or missing — Judge.me, Loox, Okendo, theme app blocks.
Written for a Shopify DTC owner whose product page shows an empty reviews section, a missing star badge, or a theme app block that never mounts — usually Judge.me / Loox / Okendo app embed off on the live theme, a product template missing the reviews block after a theme edit, unpublished / pending reviews, or two review apps fighting the same slot. DIY-first: prove blank DOM vs installed app, check app embed and product template blocks, isolate published reviews and conflicts. Distinct from review-request email not sending, product variant picker / swatches not updating, cart drawer / AJAX cart not updating, and collection filters / facets not working. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

01
Product reviews widget — not review-request email, variant picker, cart drawer, or collection filters.
Several products can look like “reviews are broken.” They do not share a settings panel. This page is only when the on-page product reviews widget, star badge, or reviews carousel is blank or missing on the product page. Missing Judge.me / Loox / Okendo / Klaviyo review-request emails after fulfillment are review-request email not sending. A stuck product variant picker or swatches UI is variant picker / swatches not updating. A stale cart drawer after a successful add is cart drawer / AJAX cart not updating. Empty or stuck collection filters / facets are collection filters / facets not working. This page is only: the storefront reviews widget and theme app blocks.
Seven ordinary reasons the widget looks dead: app embed disabled on the live theme, product template missing the reviews app block after a theme publish, reviews sitting in moderation / unpublished, product handle / SKU mismatch so the app has no reviews to render, star-rating badge section removed from the product form, two review apps installed into the same slot, or you are debugging review-request email / variant picker / cart drawer / collection filters instead. Walk them in that order. You already pay for the review app. You do not need another reviews seat to show reviews that already exist.
02
Prove the reviews area is blank while Judge.me / Loox / Okendo is installed.
Pick a product you know has published reviews in the review-app admin. Open the live product page in an incognito window. Screenshot the blank reviews area (or the missing star badge near the title). Open Theme editor on the live theme → product template and note whether the Judge.me / Loox / Okendo app block is present and enabled. Open DevTools → Network and watch for the review-app script / widget endpoint. Screenshot empty DOM vs a 200 script that never mounts.
Honest proof: if the app admin shows published reviews for that product and the storefront still renders an empty section or no block at all, stay on this page — that is app embed, theme app blocks, moderation, or conflicts. If review-request emails never leave after fulfillment, leave this page for review-request email not sending. If option clicks leave price / image stuck, use variant picker / swatches not updating. If Add to cart works but the cart drawer stays stale, use cart drawer / AJAX cart not updating. If collection facet chips are empty, use collection filters / facets not working. Do not mix those proofs.
03
App embed + product template theme app blocks on the live theme.
Online Store 2.0 themes mount Judge.me / Loox / Okendo through an app embed (global script) and one or more theme app blocks on the product template (reviews widget, star rating, carousel). A theme switch, duplicate, or “reset sections” publish that drops those blocks is the most common “reviews disappeared” ticket — the app is still installed; the storefront slot is gone.
Fix: Theme editor → App embeds — enable the review app on the live theme and Save. Product template — add / re-enable the reviews widget and star-rating blocks, place them where shoppers expect (under title / below description), Save. Preview then hard-refresh the live product URL. Review-request schedules are still review-request email not sending— this page is the on-page widget, not the post-fulfillment email.
04
Published reviews, moderation queue, and product matching.
A correctly mounted widget still looks blank when every review for that product is pending, rejected, or matched to a different product handle / variant after a catalog import. Grouped products, combined listings, and SKU renames often leave the widget mounted with zero published reviews to show.
Fix: in Judge.me / Loox / Okendo admin, open the product and confirm published (not pending) reviews exist. Clear moderation backlog for that SKU. If you renamed handles or merged products, re-link or re-import reviews to the live product. Spot-check 3–5 products that should have stars. Variant media and combined-listings UI bugs on the product form still belong on variant picker / swatches not updating— that is product options, not review publication.
05
Dawn-family sections, star rating badges, and carousel placement.
Dawn-family and most OS 2.0 themes treat the star badge near the product title as a separate app block from the full reviews list / photo carousel lower on the page. Merchants often restore one and forget the other — “stars missing under the title” while the reviews section still exists, or the reverse after a section reorder.
Fix: in Theme editor, confirm both the star-rating badge and the reviews widget / carousel blocks are enabled on the product template you actually publish (default product vs alternate templates for gift cards / bundles). Check mobile layout — some themes hide the badge under a collapsed accordion. Cart drawer Section API bugs after add-to-cart are still cart drawer / AJAX cart not updating— different surface from a blank reviews block.
06
Two review apps, custom liquid, and scripts fighting the widget.
Stores that migrated from one review app to another often leave the old app embed, leftover liquid snippets, or a custom “reviews” section that renders an empty container over the new app block. Custom CSS that sets display:none on .jdgm-* / .loox-* / Okendo wrappers also looks like “the widget is gone.”
Fix: keep one review owner. Disable the old app embed and remove orphan liquid / sections on a development theme first. Check console for uncaught errors when the product page loads. Search theme CSS for review-app class hides. Collection facet / filter apps fighting the grid are still collection filters / facets not working— different product from a blank Judge.me / Loox / Okendo widget after a successful app-block install.
07
You tested review-request email, variant picker, cart drawer, or collection filters instead.
Missing post-fulfillment review-request emails are review-request email not sending. Stuck product variant picker / swatches is variant picker / swatches not updating. Stale cart drawer / AJAX cart after add is cart drawer / AJAX cart not updating. Empty or stuck collection filters / facets are collection filters / facets not working.
The only honest test for this page: a product with published reviews shows stars and the reviews widget / carousel on the live product template, app embed is on, only one review owner is installed, console is clean on load, and pending / unmatched reviews are not the silent cause. Anything else is a different product.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.
Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove blank widget vs published reviews, enable app embed and product template app blocks on the live theme, clear moderation / product matching, restore star badge and carousel placement, and remove competing review apps or CSS hides. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Pay for help when the work is not the reviews toggle — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in DMs, storefront and checkout-ready exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.
What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.
Other shops’ public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.
What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, perfect reviews widgets forever, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.
