Playbook · Shopify swatch filter blank

Color filter chips are empty.

Written for a Shopify owner whose collection Color / swatch filter chips render blank — empty circles, no hex fill, no image swatches in the facet sidebar, while labels may still apply — or you chased wrong PDP swatch paint, wrong facet counts, empty/broken filters, or missing PDP swatch UI instead. DIY-first: prove filter swatch source → repair → retest. Distinct from color swatch wrong (PDP/collection card paints the wrong hex). Soft-link filter count wrong when (N) ≠ applied grid. Soft-link Search & Discovery filters broken when filters empty or do not apply. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

01

Swatch filter blank — not color swatch wrong, not filter count wrong, not filters broken.

Several “swatch” and “filter” bugs look alike. They do not share a fix. This page is only when the collection Color / swatch filter facet mounts, but the chips themselves are blank — empty circles, missing hex, missing image swatches — while clicking a label may still filter. Wrong hex or image on PDP option swatches is shopify-color-swatch-wrong.

Soft-check shopify-filter-count-wrong when facet (N) does not match the applied grid (not when chips are empty), shopify-search-and-discovery-filters-broken when filters are empty or do not apply at all, and shopify-color-swatches-not-showing when the PDP/collection-card swatch UI never mounts.

02

Prove Search & Discovery color type vs metafield vs theme CSS vs filter app.

Open a live collection with storefront filters on. Soft-check Search & Discovery → Filters: is Color set to Swatch (not List / Button only)? Soft-check whether each option value has a mapped hex or swatch image. Soft-check metafield / metaobject color sources and storefront access after bulk edit or rename. Soft-check theme filter Liquid / CSS — --swatch-color, background-color, or filter-swatch classes zeroed by custom CSS. Soft-check third-party filter apps inventing blank chips. Soft-check Markets / locale so color maps exist only on the primary market.

Capture: screenshot of blank chips, Search & Discovery Color filter type + value map, theme filter section settings, filter apps on Current, and any custom CSS targeting swatches.

03

Repair blank swatch sources; retest chips show hex or images.

Set Search & Discovery Color filter display to Swatch and map each value to a hex or image. Re-align option values after renames so maps are not orphaned. Fix theme CSS that zeros backgrounds or hides swatch pseudo-elements. Disable or reconfigure filter apps rendering empty chips. Publish Current, hard-refresh, confirm every Color chip shows a fill or image on mobile and desktop.

Honest retest: every Color filter chip shows a visible hex fill or image; applying a chip still filters the grid. Soft-link shopify-color-swatch-wrong when chips fill but paint the wrong color on PDP. Soft-link shopify-filter-count-wrong when (N) mismatches. Soft-link shopify-search-and-discovery-filters-broken when filters do not apply or the sidebar is empty.

04

You tested color swatch wrong, filter count wrong, or filters broken instead.

PDP / collection-card swatches paint the wrong hex or image is shopify-color-swatch-wrong. Facet (N) ≠ applied product count is shopify-filter-count-wrong. Filters empty or do not apply is shopify-search-and-discovery-filters-broken. PDP swatch UI never mounts is shopify-color-swatches-not-showing.

The only honest test for this page: collection Color / swatch filter chips are blank (empty circles / no fill / no image). Anything else is a different product.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove Search & Discovery color type vs metafield vs theme CSS vs filter app, repair, retest. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Related pages: color swatch wrong, filter count wrong, Search & Discovery filters broken.

Pay for help when the work is not the blank chip itself — it is connecting the stack you already have so storefront / collection / filter exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.

What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.

Other shops' public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.

What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever swatch-filter guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.

Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
