Playbook · Shopify filter count wrong

Facet says 12. Grid shows 3.

Written for a Shopify owner whose collection filter facet counts do not match the product grid after apply — Color: Blue (12) applies to three products, Size: M (0) still clickable, Markets / availability inflating counts, Search & Discovery stale after bulk edit, theme or AJAX apps inventing numbers — or you chased empty/broken filters, Manual sort, pagination 404, or facet crawl waste instead. DIY-first: prove count source → repair → retest. Distinct from Search & Discovery filters broken (filters empty or do not apply). Soft-link collection sort broken when Manual / Featured order is the leftover gap. Soft-link pagination 404 when Next / page/2 404s after filtering. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

01

Filter count wrong — not filters broken, not sort, not pagination 404, not facet crawl.

Several “filter” bugs look alike. They do not share a fix. This page is only when facets mount and apply, but the (N) next to a value does not match the applied grid — stale Search & Discovery counts, availability / Markets mismatch, metafield sources out of sync, or theme / AJAX apps inventing numbers. Filters empty or do not apply at all is shopify-search-and-discovery-filters-broken.

Soft-check shopify-collection-sort-broken when Manual / Featured order is wrong (not when counts mismatch), shopify-pagination-404 when Next / page/2 returns 404 after filters shrink the set, and shopify-crawl-budget-wasted-facets when filtered URLs waste crawl but counts are fine.

02

Prove Search & Discovery vs metafield vs availability vs theme count Liquid.

Open a live collection with storefront filters on. Soft-check each facet value count against a manual product count for that value (Admin collection product list, CSV export, or the filtered URL product count). Soft-check Search & Discovery filter definitions, boosts, and availability filters. Soft-check Markets / location inventory so unavailable variants inflate or deflate counts. Soft-check metafield / metaobject filter sources after bulk edit. Soft-check theme Liquid or AJAX filter apps that invent counts client-side instead of storefront filtering API counts. Soft-check combined filters (Color + Size) where counts should update after the first apply.

Capture: facet label + (N), applied grid count, Search & Discovery filter config screenshot, Markets / availability settings, metafield filter source, and which filter apps are on Current.

03

Repair filter count sources; retest facet numbers vs applied grid.

Refresh or rebuild Search & Discovery filters after catalog changes. Align metafield definitions and storefront access. Fix availability / Markets so counts exclude OOS when the theme hides unavailable. Prefer storefront filtering API counts over hard-coded Liquid. Disable or reconfigure filter apps inventing wrong numbers. Publish Current, hard-refresh, compare facet (N) to applied grid count on mobile and desktop.

Honest retest: every visible facet (N) matches the product count after applying that value alone; combined filters update counts after each apply. Soft-link shopify-search-and-discovery-filters-broken when filters do not apply or the sidebar is empty. Soft-link shopify-collection-sort-broken when Manual order is the leftover gap. Soft-link shopify-pagination-404 when pagination 404s after filtering.

04

You tested filters broken, sort, pagination 404, or facet crawl instead.

Collection / storefront filters empty or do not apply is shopify-search-and-discovery-filters-broken. Manual / Featured collection order broken is shopify-collection-sort-broken. Next / page/2 returning 404 is shopify-pagination-404. Facet URL crawl waste is shopify-crawl-budget-wasted-facets.

The only honest test for this page: facet (N) ≠ applied product count. Anything else is a different product.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove Search & Discovery vs metafield vs availability vs theme count Liquid, repair, retest. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Related pages: Search & Discovery filters broken, collection sort broken, pagination 404.

Pay for help when the work is not the facet count itself — it is connecting the stack you already have so storefront / collection / filter exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.

What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.

Other shops' public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.

What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever filter-count guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.

Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
