Playbook · Shopify stock counter wrong
Admin says 17. The storefront says Only 2 left.
Written for a Shopify owner whose stock counter is wrong — inventory quantity badge mismatch vs admin, Only X left meter stuck, theme stock counter reading the wrong field or location — or you chased a deny/continue inventory policy, kit component decrement, or multi-location POS sync instead. DIY-first: prove admin qty / counter source / location / app cache → repair → retest. Distinct from variant inventory policy wrong and multi-location inventory wrong. Soft-link kit inventory wrong when kit/component stock is the leftover gap. Soft-link low-stock alert not firing when the counter is fine but the alert email never sends. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

01
Stock counter wrong — not variant inventory policy, not kit inventory.
Several “inventory / stock” bugs look alike. They do not share a fix. This page is only when a stock counter / inventory badge / Only X left meter mounts and shows a number that does not match admin inventory for that variant — wrong count, stuck, or stale vs location. Deny/continue when out of stock wrong is still shopify-variant-inventory-policy-wrong. Kit / bundle component inventory not decrementing is shopify-kit-inventory-wrong.
Soft-check multi-location-inventory-wrong when POS / location sync is the leftover gap, and soft-link shopify-back-in-stock-not-notifying when the counter is fine but sold-out notify never sends — not when the displayed quantity itself is wrong.
02
Prove admin qty vs storefront counter vs location sum vs app cache.
On Current theme (not a draft), open the PDP with the bad counter in incognito. Soft-check Admin Products → variant Inventory for the same SKU and Online Store location. Soft-check theme section / Liquid for inventory_quantity vs available vs location-specific inventory. Soft-check stock-counter / low-stock App embeds not caching stale qty. Soft-check Markets / channel. Soft-check mobile vs desktop. Soft-check you did not test deny/continue policy, kit components, or multi-location POS sync instead.
Capture: page URL + variant, screenshot of counter vs admin qty, location name, App embeds toggle state, and mobile/desktop settings on Current.
03
Repair theme counter source / location scope / app cache; retest.
On Current, soft-check stock-counter section / app block enabled and reading the correct inventory field. Soft-check location filter matches the Online Store selling location (not a warehouse the storefront should ignore). Soft-check App embeds refresh after inventory change. Soft-check CSS not hiding the correct node while a stale duplicate remains. Soft-check mobile/desktop. Publish Current, hard-refresh desktop and phone.
Honest retest: counter matches admin inventory for that variant/location — not only Network 200 without UI. Soft-link shopify-variant-inventory-policy-wrong when deny/continue is the leftover gap. Soft-link shopify-kit-inventory-wrong when kit components are the leftover gap. Soft-link multi-location-inventory-wrong when POS / location sync is the leftover gap.
04
You tested variant inventory policy, kit inventory, or multi-location sync instead.
Deny/continue when out of stock wrong is still shopify-variant-inventory-policy-wrong. Kit / bundle component inventory not decrementing is shopify-kit-inventory-wrong. Multi-location / POS stock not syncing is multi-location-inventory-wrong. Low-stock alert email never sending (counter may be fine) is low-stock-alert-not-firing.
The only honest test for this page: compare the storefront stock counter number to admin inventory for the same variant and Online Store location — while policy / kit / multi-location paths may still work.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.
Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove admin qty vs counter source vs location vs app cache, soft-check apps, repair, retest. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Related pages: variant inventory policy wrong, kit inventory wrong, multi-location inventory wrong.
Pay for help when the work is not the stock-counter-wrong wiring itself — it is connecting the stack you already have so storefront / inventory / stock-counter-wrong exception alerts land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.
What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.
Other shops' public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.
What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever stock-counter-wrong guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.
Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
