Playbook · Shopify back-in-stock / sold-out notify not notifying
Sold-out notify captured the buyer — inventory returned — and nobody got notified.
Written for a Shopify DTC owner whose back-in-stock / sold-out notify emails or waitlist apps never notify customers when inventory returns — Notify me / Email when available signup exists, stock is back on the PDP, but the restock send never fires — or you chased variant inventory policy, Flow inventory quantity, Flow triggers, abandoned checkout recovery mail, or webhook delivery instead. DIY-first: prove waitlist → same-variant sellable restock → app/Flow notify job → threshold/location → suppression → retest. Distinct from variant inventory policy wrong, Flow inventory not updating, Flow trigger not firing, abandoned checkout email not sending, and webhooks not delivering. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

Sold-out notify not firing after inventory returns — not variant policy, Flow inventory, Flow trigger, abandoned checkout email, or webhooks.
Several inventory / email products can look like “nobody was notified.” They do not share a fix. This page is only when a back-in-stock / sold-out waitlist or notify app already captured the buyer, inventory later returned, and the notify still never fired. Variant inventory policy deny vs continue selling (oversell / block) is shopify-variant-inventory-policy-wrong. Shopify Flow inventory quantity conditions / actions not updating stock is shopify-flow-inventory-not-updating. Flow workflow trigger not firing on order/create/inventory events is shopify-flow-trigger-not-firing. Native abandoned checkout recovery mail is shopify-abandoned-checkout-email-not-sending. App webhook HMAC / HTTPS / retry backlog is shopify-webhooks-not-delivering.
Soft links when the bug is adjacent: Notify me control never appears on the OOS PDP is shopify-back-in-stock-alert-missing. Broad Klaviyo / Flow / app restock-email infra is back-in-stock-email-not-sending. This playbook stays on inventory returned → notify never dispatched for an existing waitlist.
02
Prove waitlist signup, same-variant restock, and notify job state.
Open the waitlist / subscribers list for the exact variant ID the buyer signed (not the parent product only). Confirm the email or SMS is present and confirmed if the app requires double opt-in.
Restock that same variant to a sellable available quantity on the Online Store selling location — not draft inventory, not reserved-only, not a sibling color/size. Capture before/after available in Admin → Inventory and in the app’s product filter.
In the restock / back-in-stock app (or Klaviyo Back in Stock / a Flow that watches inventory), confirm the notify automation is enabled, the threshold matches how you restocked (available > 0 vs on-hand), and the test profile is not suppressed, unsubscribed, or bounced.
03
Repair threshold, location, app job, suppression — then retest.
Align multi-location available vs on-hand so the notify app sees sellable stock on the channel location buyers use. Fix paused automations, plan send limits, wrong collection/product filters, and “only notify once” flags that already burned the test address.
Clear suppression / bounce / spam-folder on a fresh test signup. Force a clean 0 → N available transition on the waitlisted variant (some apps ignore tiny adjustments that never crossed zero). Retest end-to-end: signup → restock → inbox within the app’s documented delay.
Soft notes: if the Notify me control never mounts, use shopify-back-in-stock-alert-missing. If the waitlist path is healthy but Klaviyo/Flow/app email infra is the failure mode, use back-in-stock-email-not-sending. Variant continue-selling / deny is shopify-variant-inventory-policy-wrong.
04
You tested variant policy, Flow, abandoned checkout, or webhooks instead.
Variant inventory policy deny/continue wrong is shopify-variant-inventory-policy-wrong. Flow inventory quantity not updating is shopify-flow-inventory-not-updating. Flow trigger not firing is shopify-flow-trigger-not-firing. Abandoned checkout email not sending is shopify-abandoned-checkout-email-not-sending. Webhooks not delivering is shopify-webhooks-not-delivering.
The only honest test for this page: waitlist row on variant V → available on V goes from 0 to sellable → notify job enabled → message lands (or the app’s send log shows attempt). Anything else is a different product.
05
When to stay DIY vs pay $997.
Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove the waitlist, restock the same variant to sellable available, turn the notify job on, align location/threshold, clear suppression, retest. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Related pages: alert missing, restock email, variant inventory policy, Flow inventory, Flow trigger.
Pay for help when the work is not the notify toggle — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in DMs, storefront and checkout-ready exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.
What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.
Other shops’ public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.
What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever restock-notify uptime guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.
