Playbook · Shopify Rich text section blank

The Rich text section is blank or not rendering.

Written for a Shopify DTC owner whose Rich text section is missing, empty, or invisible on the live storefront. Hold one published theme and one URL constant: prove the template, section settings, content source, HTML output, and visibility rules before changing code. This is not a blank page, image failure, collection banner issue, or Collection banner problem. No earnings claims.

01

First, name the missing surface.

This page is for a Rich text section that should render a heading, body copy, or button but is blank, absent, or invisible on the live storefront. A whole page shell that is white belongs elsewhere; a missing banner image belongs in collection banner; a two-column media block belongs in Collection banner.

Open the exact live URL directly, not only the theme editor preview. Record the handle, template, section position, device, Market, heading or text expected, and whether surrounding sections render. One URL failing points to template or data; every URL failing points to the published theme or shared CSS.

02

Prove the published template and section, not only the draft.

In Online Store → Themes, open the published theme and the exact template assigned to the live URL. Confirm the Rich text section exists, is enabled, is in the expected order, and has not been hidden by device, Market, schedule, or alternate template settings. A preview query can show a draft section that buyers never receive.

  • Section chrome missing means wrong template, disabled section, or a publish mismatch.
  • Chrome visible but copy absent means inspect the content value or dynamic source.
  • Desktop visible but phone blank points to responsive visibility, CSS, or a breakpoint rule.
  • One URL stale while others work points to handle-level template or source data.

03

Trace rich text content, dynamic sources, and visibility in that order.

Check the heading, body, button label, link, color scheme, and any dynamic source. Compare the theme editor value with the rendered HTML. If the value is saved but absent from view-source, inspect the Liquid section and JSON template. If markup exists but paints nothing, inspect CSS, opacity, height, overflow, z-index, text color, and app overlays.

Check browser Console and Network only to classify the gate: no markup means template or server rendering; markup with empty text means source or sanitization; visible text in HTML but no pixels means CSS; an exception during hydration means theme or app JavaScript. Change one variable at a time and keep the failing URL as the control.

04

Repair the smallest live path, then retest edge cases.

Restore the section on the correct published template, repopulate the intended rich-text value or dynamic source, and remove only the CSS or app conflict identified by evidence. Publish the smallest change. Do not replace the section with a screenshot or duplicate content to hide a template mismatch.

Retest the same URL on desktop and phone, in a clean browser, after consent, and in a second Market. Confirm heading, body copy, button href, contrast, semantic HTML, canonical URL, and neighboring sections. Save before/after evidence so the next theme or app update is diagnosable.

05

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if one Rich text section needs one template, source, or visibility correction. Prove the live path, fix the smallest gate, publish, and retest. No agency is required and no conversion or revenue guarantee is implied.

Pay $997 one-time when the work is wiring the live Shopify stack you already use: lead capture, ops alerts, and a checkout-ready workflow. Nico at Latch AI Ops installs it on one live store in 72 hours after collaborator access is in. You are buying the install, not more orders or an earnings claim.
