Playbook · Online Store Core Web Vitals / LCP failing

Shopify Online Store Core Web Vitals / LCP failing in PageSpeed or Search Console.

Written for a Shopify DTC owner whose Google Search Console Core Web Vitals or PageSpeed Insights marks Online Store URL groups as Poor / failing on Largest Contentful Paint — field CrUX LCP over threshold, lab LCP element stuck on a heavy hero, render-blocking theme or App embed scripts delaying paint — or you chased Hydrogen cart, theme app extensions, Online Store 2.0 section groups, or a cookie banner instead. DIY-first: prove GSC + PSI → fix LCP element → retest. Distinct from Hydrogen cart broken, theme app extensions not appearing, Online Store 2.0 section groups broken, and cookie banner blocking checkout. Soft-link shopify-pagespeed-lcp-poor when the bug is mobile lab LCP / theme JS / apps / image sizes / critical CSS without the GSC “failing URL group” framing. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

Online Store LCP failing in PageSpeed / Search Console — not Hydrogen cart, theme app extensions, OS2 section groups, cookie banner.

Several “store feels slow / Google says we are failing” products can look alike. They do not share a fix. This page is only when Online Store Core Web Vitals show LCP failing in PageSpeed Insights or Search Console (URL groups Poor / Needs improvement on LCP). Hydrogen / Oxygen cart empty or broken after add is shopify-hydrogen-cart-broken. Theme app extensions / app blocks missing in the theme editor is shopify-theme-app-extensions-not-appearing. Header/footer section groups blank or broken in Online Store 2.0 customizer is shopify-online-store-2-section-groups-broken. Cookie consent / CMP overlay trapping ATC or checkout clicks is shopify-cookie-banner-blocking-checkout.

Soft links when the bug is adjacent: mobile PageSpeed / LCP poor (theme JS, apps, image sizes, critical CSS) is shopify-pagespeed-lcp-poor. High CLS is shopify-cls-layout-shift. Poor INP is shopify-inp-slow-interactions. CDN product images 404 is cdn-shopify-images-not-loading. This playbook stays on GSC Core Web Vitals failing LCP ↔ PageSpeed Insights field/lab LCP ↔ Online Store hero / render-blocking scripts.

02

Prove GSC Core Web Vitals URL groups and PageSpeed Insights field vs lab LCP.

Open Google Search Console → Experience → Core Web Vitals. Separate mobile and desktop. Export or note URL groups marked Poor or Needs improvement where LCP is the failing metric. Paste a representative URL into PageSpeed Insights. Record field LCP (CrUX) when available and the lab LCP element (often the homepage hero image, collection banner, or product featured image). Note render-blocking CSS/JS and third-party App embeds in the Opportunities list.

Soft-check: if Hydrogen / headless cart is empty after add, leave this page and use shopify-hydrogen-cart-broken. If app blocks never appear in the theme editor, use shopify-theme-app-extensions-not-appearing. If Online Store 2.0 section groups will not render in the customizer, use shopify-online-store-2-section-groups-broken. If a cookie / GDPR banner is trapping clicks on ATC or checkout, use shopify-cookie-banner-blocking-checkout.

03

Repair LCP element, render-blocking scripts; retest PSI and wait for GSC field data.

Fix the LCP element first: serve an appropriately sized hero with width/height or aspect-ratio, correct sizes / srcset, fetchpriority="high", and do not lazy-load the above-the-fold hero. Defer non-critical theme JavaScript. Turn off unused App embeds and chat / review / popup scripts that block first paint. Avoid background-video heroes that delay LCP on mobile. Soft-check CDN 404s on the hero on cdn-shopify-images-not-loading.

Retest: PageSpeed Insights lab LCP improves → field CrUX needs days/weeks to move → watch GSC Core Web Vitals URL groups leave Poor. Soft notes: mobile theme-JS / apps / image-sizes / critical-CSS deep DIY also lives on shopify-pagespeed-lcp-poor. CLS belongs on shopify-cls-layout-shift. INP belongs on shopify-inp-slow-interactions. Hydrogen cart belongs on shopify-hydrogen-cart-broken. Theme app extensions belong on shopify-theme-app-extensions-not-appearing. OS2 section groups belong on shopify-online-store-2-section-groups-broken. Cookie banner belongs on shopify-cookie-banner-blocking-checkout.

04

You tested Hydrogen cart, theme app extensions, OS2 section groups, or cookie banner instead.

Hydrogen cart broken is shopify-hydrogen-cart-broken. Theme app extensions not appearing is shopify-theme-app-extensions-not-appearing. Online Store 2.0 section groups broken is shopify-online-store-2-section-groups-broken. Cookie banner blocking checkout is shopify-cookie-banner-blocking-checkout. Mobile PageSpeed / LCP poor deep DIY is shopify-pagespeed-lcp-poor.

The only honest test for this page: GSC Core Web Vitals shows URL groups failing on LCP → PageSpeed Insights field and/or lab LCP over threshold → after fix, lab LCP improves and GSC groups eventually leave Poor. Anything else is a different product.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove GSC + PSI, fix the hero LCP element, defer unused App embeds, retest. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Related pages: PageSpeed LCP poor, CLS layout shift, INP slow interactions, Hydrogen cart, theme app extensions, OS2 section groups, cookie banner blocking checkout.

Pay for help when the work is not the LCP element itself — it is connecting the stack you already have so CWV / PageSpeed / indexing exception alerts land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.

What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not an SEO retainer, not a ranking or CWV-pass guarantee, not a brand or theme job.

Other shops' public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or ranking-lift claim.

What it does not buy: more organic traffic, recovered rankings, guaranteed Good Core Web Vitals forever, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.

Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
