Playbook · Shopify Image with text section broken

The Image with text section is blank, missing, or wrong.

Written for a Shopify DTC owner whose Image with text section does not render correctly on the live storefront. Hold one URL and one published theme constant: prove the template, image source, section settings, markup, and responsive rules before changing code. This is not a CDN asset 404, a product media gallery failure, or a whole-page blank. No earnings claims.

01

First, name the missing surface.

This page is for an Image with text section: a paired image and copy block that is absent, empty, reversed, collapsed, or visibly wrong while nearby sections render. A product gallery that is empty belongs in product media; a single asset returning 404 belongs in CDN images; a whole page that is white is a different failure.

Open the exact live URL directly, not only the theme editor preview. Record the handle, template, section position, device, Market, expected image, heading, body, button, and whether the section wrapper or only its contents disappear. One URL failing points to template or data; every URL failing points to the published theme or shared CSS.

02

Prove the published template and section, not only preview.

In Online Store → Themes, open the published theme and the exact template assigned to the live URL. Confirm the Image with text section exists, is enabled, appears in the expected order, and has the intended image, crop, text alignment, color scheme, button, and mobile stacking settings. Preview parameters can show a draft section that buyers never receive.

  • Wrapper missing means wrong template, disabled section, or publish mismatch.
  • Wrapper visible but image missing means source, asset, or media-type handling.
  • Copy visible but image absent on one breakpoint points to responsive CSS or crop rules.
  • Desktop and mobile disagree means inspect the section’s stack/order and visibility settings before editing Liquid.

03

Trace image source, markup, and responsive rules in that order.

Check the section image setting, dynamic source, product or metaobject reference, alt text, focal point, crop, and whether the image belongs to the current template. Compare the editor value with rendered HTML. If no image markup reaches view-source, inspect the Liquid section and JSON template. If markup exists but paints nothing, inspect dimensions, display, opacity, overflow, aspect ratio, object position, z-index, and breakpoint rules.

Use DevTools → Console and Network only to classify the gate: no markup means template or server rendering; an empty source means data or dynamic-source wiring; a failed asset request means asset delivery; HTML with no pixels means CSS; an exception during hydration means theme or app JavaScript. Change one variable at a time and keep the failing URL as the control.

04

Repair the smallest live path, then retest edge cases.

Restore the section on the correct published template, repopulate the intended image or dynamic source, and remove only the CSS or app conflict identified by evidence. Preserve the section’s semantic heading, alt text, link, and mobile order. Publish the smallest change; do not replace the block with a screenshot or duplicate it to hide a template mismatch.

Retest the same URL on desktop and phone, in a clean browser, after consent, and in a second Market. Confirm image request status, intrinsic dimensions, crop, alt text, heading hierarchy, button href, contrast, canonical URL, and neighboring sections. Save before/after evidence so the next theme or app update is diagnosable.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if one Image with text section needs one controlled repair. Prove the live path, fix the smallest gate, publish, and retest. No agency is required and no conversion or revenue guarantee is implied.

Pay $997 one-time when the work is wiring the live Shopify stack you already use: lead capture, ops alerts, and a checkout-ready workflow. Nico at Latch AI Ops installs it on one live store in 72 hours after collaborator access is in. You are buying the install, not more orders or an earnings claim.
