Playbook · Shopify pagination 404

You clicked Next. Page not found.

Written for a Shopify owner whose collection or blog pagination Next / Previous / Load more / /page/2 returns HTTP 404 or the theme Page not found — broken page URLs, page number past the last page, Markets locale prefixes dropping /page/N, AJAX infinite-scroll inventing missing routes — or you chased thin /page/2 SEO titles, Manual sort, faceted filters, or facet crawl waste instead. DIY-first: prove Next href → repair paginate → retest. Distinct from collection pagination SEO (thin or duplicate titles that still return 200). Soft-link collection sort broken when Manual / Featured order is the leftover gap. Soft-link Search & Discovery filters broken when filters empty the grid into a fake last page. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

01

Pagination 404 — not thin page/2 SEO, not sort, not filters, not facet crawl.

Several “pagination” bugs look alike. They do not share a fix. This page is only when Next / Previous / Load more / /page/2 returns 404 or Page not found — the URL is wrong, past last page, Markets-prefixed wrong, or an AJAX app invents a missing route. Thin or duplicate titles on /page/2 that still load (HTTP 200) is shopify-collection-pagination-seo.

Soft-check shopify-collection-sort-broken when Manual / Featured order is wrong (not when pagination 404s), shopify-search-and-discovery-filters-broken when filters empty results so “page 2” should not exist, and shopify-crawl-budget-wasted-facets when filtered URLs waste crawl but still 200.

02

Prove Next href vs product count vs Markets prefix vs AJAX template.

Open a live collection with enough products for two+ pages. Soft-check the Next link href (Inspect). Soft-check opening that URL returns 404 while page 1 returns 200. Soft-check Markets / language prefixes (/en-us/collections/.../page/2). Soft-check theme Liquid paginate / page_url vs hard-coded paths. Soft-check infinite-scroll / Load more apps rewriting history to missing routes. Soft-check blog /blog/.../page/2 the same way. Soft-check filtered or sorted views that shrink product count so page 2 is past last.

Capture: Next href, response status for /page/2, Markets prefix, theme pagination snippet, which Load more / infinite scroll apps are on Current, and whether filters are active.

03

Repair pagination URLs; retest Next and direct /page/2.

Use Shopify paginate and page_url (not hard-coded /page/N). Hide Next when paginate.pages is exhausted. Keep Markets locale prefixes on every page URL. Disable or reconfigure infinite-scroll apps that invent 404 routes. Clear sticky filters that empty the collection before page 2. Publish Current, hard-refresh, click Next and open /page/2 directly on mobile and desktop.

Honest retest: Next and /page/2 return 200 with products (or Next is hidden on the last page). Soft-link shopify-collection-pagination-seo when pages load but titles / canonicals are thin or duplicated. Soft-link shopify-collection-sort-broken when Manual order is the leftover gap. Soft-link shopify-search-and-discovery-filters-broken when filters are the leftover gap.

04

You tested thin SEO, sort, filters, or facet crawl instead.

Thin or duplicate titles on /page/2 that still return 200 is shopify-collection-pagination-seo. Manual / Featured collection order broken is shopify-collection-sort-broken. Collection / storefront filters broken is shopify-search-and-discovery-filters-broken. Facet URL crawl waste is shopify-crawl-budget-wasted-facets.

The only honest test for this page: Next or /page/2 returns 404 / Page not found. Anything else is a different product.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove Next href vs product count vs Markets prefix vs AJAX template, repair, retest. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Related pages: collection pagination SEO, collection sort broken, Search & Discovery filters broken.

Pay for help when the work is not the pagination URL itself — it is connecting the stack you already have so storefront / collection / pagination exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.

What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.

Other shops' public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.

What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever pagination guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.

Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
