Playbook · Draft order invoice not sending / link expired

Shopify draft order invoice email not sending — or the payment link expired.

Written for a Shopify owner whose customer never got the draft order invoice email, or opened an invoice link that says expired / no longer payable — usually Draft order invoice notifications off, Send invoice never clicked, missing customer email on the draft, payment due / payment terms past due, spam/junk, or a reused expired link. DIY-first: prove notifications → Send invoice → customer email → payment terms → spam → fresh resend. Distinct from abandoned checkout email not sending, refund email not sending, B2B catalog prices wrong, and order status page blank. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

01

Draft invoice not sending / link expired — not abandoned checkout, refund, B2B catalog, order status.

Several products can look like “the customer never got paid / never got an email.” They do not share a settings panel. This page is only when native Shopify Draft order invoice never lands, or the customer opens an invoice payment link that is expired / no longer payable. Abandoned checkout recovery is abandoned-checkout-email-not-sending. Refund / return confirmation silence is refund-email-not-sending. B2B company catalog price wrong is shopify-b2b-catalog-prices-wrong. Thank-you / order status / tracking page blank is shopify-order-status-page-blank.

Also not this page: order confirmation after a paid checkout, payment-pending email, customer account invite, or a Klaviyo “invoice” flow you built yourself. Those are different notification templates and different products. A shorter sibling playbook that stays on “invoice not sending” (without the expired link angle) is /draft-order-invoice-not-sending— use this shopify-prefixed page when the complaint is missing send or expired invoice link / payment terms.

02

Draft order invoice notifications + Send invoice on an open draft.

Open Settings → Notifications and find the customer notification for Draft order invoice. If that template is off, Shopify will not send when you click Send invoice. Preview the template once so you know what subject line to search for in the customer’s inbox.

Creating or saving a draft does not email the customer. On the draft order, use Send invoice (or equivalent) and confirm the send succeeded in admin activity / timeline. Retest on a brand-new open draft — not one that was already paid, completed, converted to order, or cancelled.

If you only Mark as paid / complete without Send invoice, the customer never gets a payable link. If you tested a paid checkout confirmation instead of a draft invoice, you are on the wrong product.

03

Customer email, payment due / payment terms, spam, expired invoice link.

The draft must have a customer email (or you must type the destination when sending). Typos, role accounts that bounce, and “email later” drafts produce silence that looks like a Shopify bug.

Payment due / payment terms on the draft matter for the expired-link complaint. If the invoice had a due date, payment terms, or the draft was already completed / paid / converted, the old payment link can stop working. Fix: open (or recreate) an unpaid draft, set clear payment terms / due date if you need them, and Send invoice again so the customer gets a fresh link — do not keep forwarding the expired URL.

Check spam / junk / Promotions for the Draft order invoice subject. Confirm sender domain / Shopify email branding is not blocking delivery. Soft-bounce and blocked-sender issues look identical to “never sent” from the merchant’s chair.

B2B company payment terms on a catalog location are a different surface (B2B catalog prices / payment terms). This page’s payment terms mean the draft invoice due date / terms that control whether the invoice link stays payable.

04

You tested abandoned checkout, refund email, B2B catalogs, or order status instead.

Abandoned checkout recovery silence is abandoned-checkout-email-not-sending. Refund email silence is refund-email-not-sending. B2B catalog / company location pricing is shopify-b2b-catalog-prices-wrong (or blank catalog b2b-catalog-not-showing). Order status / thank-you page blank is shopify-order-status-page-blank.

The only honest test for this page: Send invoice on an open draft with a real customer email, Draft order invoice notifications on, payment terms / due date understood, check spam, and if the link expired — resend a fresh invoice from an open draft. Anything else is a different product.

05

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: turn Draft order invoice notifications on, Send invoice on an open draft with a real customer email, set payment due / payment terms deliberately, check spam, resend instead of reusing an expired link, and stop confusing abandoned checkout / refund / B2B catalog / order status with draft invoice. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Pay for help when the work is not the notification toggle — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in DMs, storefront and checkout-ready exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.

What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.

Other shops’ public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.

What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever invoice-delivery-proof guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.

Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
