Playbook · Shopify BNPL not showing

Affirm / Klarna / Afterpay missing at checkout — and buyers only see card.

Written for a Shopify DTC owner whose buy now pay later payment option is not showing at checkout — Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay, Sezzle, Zip, or a similar BNPL provider never appears in payment methods, Markets country is unsupported, cart total is under the provider floor or over the ceiling, gift cards / subscriptions / digital goods are excluded, the app is installed but not Active, or you chased Shop Pay Installments missing, Shop Pay wallet not showing, payment customization not hiding, or 3D Secure / SCA failing instead. DIY-first: prove provider → Markets / cart eligibility → hide control → retest. Distinct from Shop Pay Installments missing, Shop Pay wallet not showing, payment customization not hiding, and 3D Secure / SCA failing. Soft-link payments card declined when the bug is a card decline after a method already showed. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

01

BNPL missing — not Shop Pay Installments, Shop Pay wallet, payment customization, or 3D Secure.

Several “installments / wallet / payments” products can look like “pay later is gone.” They do not share a fix. This page is only when a third-party buy now pay later provider (Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay, Sezzle, Zip, etc.) should appear as a checkout payment method and does not. Shop Pay Installments — Shopify Payments’ Affirm-style installment tile tied to Shop Pay eligibility — is shopify-shop-pay-installments-missing. Shop Pay accelerated wallet / button missing on PDP or cart is shopify-shop-pay-wallet-not-showing. Payment Customization Function not hiding or reordering gateways is shopify-payment-customization-not-hiding. 3D Secure / SCA authentication failing so cards decline is shopify-3d-secure-failing.

Soft links when the bug is adjacent: general card declined / AVS / CVV / issuer soft-decline after a method already showed is shopify-payments-card-declined. This playbook stays on BNPL provider expected at checkout → tile missing → buyer only sees card / Shop Pay / other non-BNPL methods.

02

Prove provider, Markets, cart total, and product eligibility.

Open Settings → Payments and confirm the BNPL app or payment provider is installed, connected, and Active (not Draft, Pending review, or Paused). Capture provider name, onboarding / KYC status, and any admin banner about unsupported countries or incomplete setup.

Reproduce checkout with a cart that should qualify: supported shipping country / Markets currency, cart subtotal inside the provider’s published min/max, no gift card–only or subscription-only lines if the provider excludes them, physical goods if digital SKUs are blocked. Screenshot the payment method list. Note whether Shop Pay Installments shows while the third-party BNPL does not (or the reverse) — that split proves you are on the wrong playbook if you only expected Shop Pay Installments.

Soft-check: if the missing tile is Shop Pay Installments specifically, leave this page and use shopify-shop-pay-installments-missing. If the Shop Pay wallet button never shows on PDP/cart, use shopify-shop-pay-wallet-not-showing. If a Function is hiding gateways, use shopify-payment-customization-not-hiding. If cards decline after an SCA challenge, use shopify-3d-secure-failing.

03

Repair activation, eligibility, and hides — then retest.

Finish provider onboarding and any identity / bank verification the BNPL app requires. Align Markets country and presentment currency with countries the provider supports. Adjust cart total into the provider floor/ceiling. Remove or swap excluded product types (gift cards, subscriptions, preorders, digital downloads) for a control cart.

Temporarily disable Payment Customization Functions and checkout apps that hide or reorder payment methods. If the BNPL tile returns with Functions off, the hide rule is the bug — fix the Function on shopify-payment-customization-not-hiding, then return here only if the provider still never mounts when unhidden. Reinstall or reconnect the BNPL app if Active status is stuck Pending.

Retest: eligible cart in a supported market → BNPL option visible beside card / other methods → test checkout path. Soft notes: Shop Pay Installments missing belongs on shopify-shop-pay-installments-missing. Wallet button missing belongs on shopify-shop-pay-wallet-not-showing. SCA / 3DS declines belong on shopify-3d-secure-failing.

You tested Shop Pay Installments, Shop Pay wallet, payment customization, or 3D Secure instead.

Shop Pay Installments missing is shopify-shop-pay-installments-missing. Shop Pay wallet not showing is shopify-shop-pay-wallet-not-showing. Payment customization not hiding is shopify-payment-customization-not-hiding. 3D Secure / SCA failing is shopify-3d-secure-failing. General card declined after a method showed is shopify-payments-card-declined.

The only honest test for this page: eligible cart in a BNPL-supported market → Affirm / Klarna / Afterpay / similar option appears in checkout payment methods (or you prove why the provider refuses to mount). Anything else is a different product.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove Active provider vs Pending, check Markets / cart floor / product exclusions, control-test Payment Customization, retest one eligible cart through to a visible BNPL tile. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Related pages: Shop Pay Installments, Shop Pay wallet, payment customization, 3D Secure / SCA, card declined.

Pay for help when the work is not the BNPL tile itself — it is connecting the stack you already have so checkout / BNPL / payment-method exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.

What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.

Other shops’ public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.

What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever BNPL-approval guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.

Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
