Playbook · Shopify tabs deep link failing

Tabs work. The deep link always lands on tab one.

Written for a Shopify owner whose tabs deep link is failing — #hash ignored, ?tab= query ignored, history API out of sync, or shareable URLs always open the default tab — or you chased blank product tabs, a nested accordion, or a cart drawer instead. DIY-first: prove hash vs query vs history vs id mismatch → repair → retest. Distinct from product tabs blank and accordion nested broken. Soft-link cart drawer not opening when the cart drawer never opens. Soft-link FAQ accordion not opening when a top-level accordion is the issue. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

01

Tabs deep link failing — not product tabs blank, not nested accordion.

Several “tabs / accordion / drawer” bugs look alike. They do not share a fix. This page is only when tabs mount and panels have content, but deep links never select the right tab — #hash ignored, ?tab= ignored, history out of sync, shareable URLs always land on the default tab. PDP tabs empty (blank panel content) is still shopify-product-tabs-blank. Nested accordion child panels stuck is shopify-accordion-nested-broken.

Soft-check shopify-cart-drawer-not-opening when the cart drawer never opens, and soft-link shopify-faq-accordion-not-opening when a top-level FAQ accordion never opens — not when tab deep links themselves fail to select the matching panel.

02

Prove hash vs query vs history vs id mismatch vs init timing.

On Current theme (not a draft), open a page with tabs in incognito — PDP description / reviews / shipping, FAQ tabs, lookbook tabs. Soft-check clicking a tab updates the URL hash or ?tab= query. Soft-check pasting /#reviews or /?tab=shipping lands on the matching panel. Soft-check history.back() restores the prior tab. Soft-check tab button id / aria-controls / panel id match the hash fragment. Soft-check theme JS reads location.hash / searchParams on DOMContentLoaded (not only on click). Soft-check App embeds rewriting history. Soft-check mobile vs desktop tab sections. Soft-check Console errors on hashchange / popstate.

Capture: page URL + deep-link URL you pasted, recording showing default tab on load, Elements panel tab/panel ids vs hash, Network/Console on hashchange, App embeds toggle state, and mobile/desktop tab settings on Current.

03

Repair deep-link init / id match / history sync; retest shareable URLs.

On Current, soft-check tab init runs on load from location.hash or URLSearchParams. Soft-check panel ids match fragments (#reviews → panel with id reviews). Soft-check hashchange and popstate listeners call the same activateTab helper as clicks. Soft-check history.replaceState on tab click so shareable URLs work without full reload. Soft-check App embeds not stripping hashes. Soft-check mobile/desktop. Publish Current, hard-refresh desktop and phone.

Honest retest: pasted deep links open the matching tab — not only click-to-switch works. Soft-link shopify-product-tabs-blank when PDP tab panels are empty. Soft-link shopify-accordion-nested-broken when nested accordion child panels stay stuck. Soft-link shopify-cart-drawer-not-opening when the cart drawer never opens.

04

You tested product tabs blank, nested accordion, or cart drawer instead.

PDP tabs empty (blank panel content) is still shopify-product-tabs-blank. Nested accordion child panels stuck is shopify-accordion-nested-broken. Cart drawer never opening is shopify-cart-drawer-not-opening. Top-level FAQ accordion never opening is shopify-faq-accordion-not-opening.

The only honest test for this page: paste a deep-link URL (#hash or ?tab=) and the matching tab panel should activate — while blank-tabs / nested-accordion / cart-drawer paths may still work.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove hash vs query vs history vs id mismatch, soft-check apps, repair, retest. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Related pages: product tabs blank, accordion nested broken, cart drawer not opening.

Pay for help when the work is not the tabs-deep-link wiring itself — it is connecting the stack you already have so storefront / theme / tabs-deep-link exception alerts land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.

What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.

Other shops' public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.

What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever tabs-deep-link guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.

Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
