Shopify HowTo rich results not showing or ineligible.
Written for a Shopify DTC owner whose blog post or page has a step-by-step guide while HowTo rich results never appear — or Search Console marks HowTo items ineligible. DIY-first: prove view-source HowTo JSON-LD with ordered HowToStep items, match visible instructions, fix eligibility (wrong page type, thin steps, policy), recheck Rich Results Test and Search Console. Distinct from FAQ rich results / FAQPage schema, Product structured data / JSON-LD missing, AggregateRating / review stars not in Google, Organization / LocalBusiness schema missing, and BreadcrumbList schema missing or wrong path. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

HowTo rich results not showing / ineligible — not FAQPage, Product, AggregateRating, Organization, BreadcrumbList.
Several schema products can look like “my rich results are broken.” They do not share a settings panel. This page is only when HowTo rich results are not showing or Search Console marks HowTo ineligible on a Shopify blog post or page. FAQPage / FAQ rich results are shopify-faq-schema-not-showing. Product structured data / JSON-LD missing or invalid is shopify-structured-data-missing. AggregateRating / review stars in Google are shopify-review-stars-not-in-google. Brand Organization / LocalBusiness on the homepage is shopify-organization-schema-missing. BreadcrumbList missing or wrong path is shopify-breadcrumb-schema-missing. This page is only: HowTo markup for a visible step-by-step on blog/pages.
Six ordinary reasons HowTo fails or is ineligible: theme or SEO app never emits HowTo JSON-LD on the blog/page template, HowTo with empty or single HowToStep, HowTo pasted onto a pure product template Google treats as shopping (not a how-to), visible steps do not match schema text, duplicate HowTo graphs fighting, or you validated FAQPage / Product / AggregateRating / Organization / BreadcrumbList instead. Walk them in that order. You already pay for Shopify and Search Console. You do not need another SEO seat to view-source HowTo.
02
Prove view-source HowTo JSON-LD vs Rich Results Test / Search Console.
Open the public blog post or page URL that should earn HowTo rich results (not a draft, not a password page, not a product URL unless the page is genuinely a how-to). View-source and collect every script type="application/ld+json" block. Look for "@type": "HowTo" with name and a step array of HowToStep (each with name and/or text). Note whether step count and wording match the visible instructions.
Paste the same public URL into Google Rich Results Test. Check Search Console Enhancement / HowTo reports for that URL (detected, valid, invalid, or ineligible). Honest proof: if FAQPage fails while HowTo is fine, leave for shopify-faq-schema-not-showing. If Product / Offer schema is missing, leave for shopify-structured-data-missing. If AggregateRating stars fail, leave for shopify-review-stars-not-in-google. If homepage Organization is missing, leave for shopify-organization-schema-missing. If crumbs are wrong, leave for shopify-breadcrumb-schema-missing. Do not mix those proofs with missing or ineligible HowTo rich results.
03
Blog post / page HowTo JSON-LD missing, empty steps, or SEO-app override.
Shopify themes often render a numbered list or accordion on a blog article / custom page without emitting HowTo JSON-LD. SEO apps may ship a HowTo field that stays empty, emits a single empty step, or overrides the theme with invalid markup. Some installs only inject FAQPage and never HowTo.
Fix: On the blog or page template that shows the instructions, emit valid HowTo JSON-LD with ordered HowToStep items that match the visible copy. If an SEO app owns schema, fill its HowTo fields completely (name + each step text) and disable empty HowTo blocks. After save, view-source and confirm HowTo appears once. If the page is really an FAQ accordion, that companion issue is shopify-faq-schema-not-showing — different product; FAQPage there, HowTo here.
04
Search Console HowTo ineligible: wrong page type, thin steps, or policy mismatch.
Markup can validate in Rich Results Test while Search Console still marks HowTo ineligible. Common cases: HowTo on a product template that is primarily a buy page, HowTo with one trivial step, HowTo that describes something Google does not treat as a how-to for rich results, noindex / robots blocking the URL, or Markets / language URLs serving a template without the HowTo block.
Fix: Put HowTo only on genuine instructional blog posts or pages. Use multiple concrete HowToStep items that match visible instructions. Do not force HowTo onto every product URL. Confirm the URL is indexable (companion robots issues often live under shopify-robots-txt-blocking-indexing). Recheck Markets / translated URLs if primary-language HowTo works and locale URLs do not. Request indexing after markup validates. Google still decides eligibility — no install sells a HowTo-rich-results guarantee.
05
Visible instructions vs schema mismatch, JS-only steps, or duplicate HowTo graphs.
HowTo text that does not match the on-page steps, steps only rendered after JS with no matching markup, or theme + SEO app each emitting a HowTo graph will delay or kill rich results. Empty text / name on HowToStep is the same class of bug.
Fix: Prefer one HowTo graph from a single source of truth. Make step text match what shoppers see without opening a modal. If instructions are JS-only, put the same text in the HTML or in the JSON-LD HowToStep fields. Re-run Rich Results Test after each change. If BreadcrumbList paths are wrong on the same URL, that companion issue is shopify-breadcrumb-schema-missing — fix crumbs there, HowTo here.
06
You tested FAQPage, Product, AggregateRating, Organization, or BreadcrumbList instead.
FAQ rich results / FAQPage schema not showing is shopify-faq-schema-not-showing. Product structured data / JSON-LD missing or invalid is shopify-structured-data-missing. AggregateRating / review stars not showing in Google is shopify-review-stars-not-in-google. Organization / LocalBusiness schema missing on homepage is shopify-organization-schema-missing. BreadcrumbList schema missing or wrong path is shopify-breadcrumb-schema-missing.
The only honest test for this page: view-source on a blog post or instructional page shows missing, empty, mismatched, or Search Console–ineligible HowTo — wrong page type, thin steps, duplicate graphs, or you validated a different schema type. Capture view-source + Rich Results Test + Search Console HowTo status, repair those causes, request indexing. Anything else is a different product.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.
Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove view-source HowTo / Rich Results Test / Search Console, emit valid HowToStep items on the blog or page, fix eligibility (wrong page type, thin steps), match visible instructions, and stop confusing FAQPage / Product / AggregateRating / Organization / BreadcrumbList with missing HowTo rich results. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Pay for help when the work is not the HowTo row — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in DMs, storefront and checkout-ready exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.
What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not an SEO agency retainer, not a rankings or HowTo-rich-results guarantee, not a theme rebuild.
Other shops' public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or ranking-lift claim.
What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever SERP / rankings / HowTo-rich-results guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.
