Playbook · Delivery customization API metafield missing
Shopify delivery customization API metafield missing? Prove API owner, namespace.key, Function input, and checkout.
Written for a Shopify DTC operator whose Delivery Customization API metafield is missing or undefined in Admin, API, Function input, or checkout. Start with the exact deliveryCustomization owner, namespace.key, definition type, access, whether a value was ever saved, and live Function/consumer mapping. This is distinct from delivery customization metafield blank and delivery customization function failing: this page assumes the API metafield key should exist on the DeliveryCustomization resource but is missing, and isolates missing-key diagnosis from empty values or Function hide/rename failures. DIY first. No earnings claims.

01
A missing API metafield is not the same bug as blank value or Function fail.
Use this page when a Delivery Customization API metafield key is absent, never defined, or never written via Admin API / app mutation. If the key exists but the value is empty or ignored by the Function, start with delivery customization metafield blank. If rates fail to hide, rename, or reorder despite a present value, use delivery customization function failing.
Capture one deliveryCustomization ID, Function ID, metafield namespace.key, Admin value state, API response field, and whether the Function input query selects that field. Do not bulk-overwrite live delivery customizations before proving the owner.
02
Name the delivery customization API owner and shop context before editing values.
Write down that the definition is on the DeliveryCustomization resource (or confirm the true owner if your app maps shop/cart). Confirm the customization you inspect is the same ID the Function and checkout use, including test vs live shop and market.
Use one reversible test customization when possible. Record customization ID, Function ID, active status, market, and the moment the metafield should be written (create, update, activate). Keep customer PII and payment tokens out of screenshots and tickets.
03
Prove namespace.key, type, access, and whether a value was ever saved.
Record the definition namespace and key exactly, including case, type, validations, list/reference shape, owner type, and app ownership. Confirm whether Admin/API shows a missing key, a cleared value, or never-saved. A value only in your app config UI is not proof of a Shopify DeliveryCustomization metafield value.
Check Admin API scopes and access required to read that metafield from the Function input query or ops app. Treat absent key, null, empty string, and empty list as separate observations.
04
Compare Admin or API value with Function input and checkout.
Open Admin and the authorized Admin API response for the same delivery customization and key. Then compare with the Function input GraphQL selection and live checkout rate output. A missing Shopify field with a populated app config is a sync gap, not a Function runtime failure.
Separate missing definition from Function mapping: if Admin/API shows no key, fix owner, definition, access, or write path first. If Shopify has a non-empty value but checkout rates ignore it, that is Function input, cache, or delivery-option scope—not metafield absence alone.
05
Retest one delivery option and preserve the proof packet.
Run one controlled checkout on one known test cart after a reversible metafield definition or API write. Record customization ID, Function ID, namespace.key, type, missing vs present state, Function input field, checkout rate result, and API field state. Retry only after the first trace is captured.
Classify the miss as wrong owner, never-defined key, never-saved value, access, Function input mapping, cache, or consumer mapping. Keep it distinct from delivery customization metafield blank and delivery customization function failing.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.
Stay DIY when one owner, definition, access, Function-input, or consumer check explains the missing field. Keep the proof packet so later Delivery Customization API writes are reversible.
Pay for the $997 one-time install when several Shopify Functions, checkout surfaces, and ops alerts need to be wired and documented on one live store. Nico at Latch AI Ops can trace the agreed path in a 72-hour window after collaborator access. No earnings claim, conversion guarantee, or theme rebuild is included; owner passwords are not requested.
