Playbook · Shopify customer accounts login broken or redirect loop

Shopify customer accounts login broken or redirect loop — classic vs new accounts, Multipass, theme login form, Shop login.

Written for a Shopify owner or ops lead whose customer accounts / new customer accounts login fails, loops, or never reaches the account home — usually classic vs new accounts mismatch, a bad Multipass SSO token, a broken theme customers/login form, or a Shop login / identity hop that never finishes. DIY-first: prove Settings → Customer accounts, prove Multipass, prove the theme login form, then open /account/login in a private window. Distinct from customer login link email not sending, customer password reset email not sending, and password page stuck online. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

Customer accounts login / redirect loop — not login-link email, not password-reset email, not password page stuck.

Several products can look like “customers cannot get into their account.” They do not share a settings panel. This page is only when the storefront customer login itself fails, redirects forever, or never reaches the account home — classic vs new customer accounts mismatch, Multipass SSO misconfigured, theme customers/login form broken, or Shop login / identity hop stuck. Magic login link email silence is customer login link email not sending. Forgot-password / reset email silence is customer password reset email not sending. The whole storefront stuck behind “Enter using password / Coming soon” is password page stuck online. This page is only: Shopify customer accounts / new customer accounts login broken or redirect loop.

Six ordinary reasons login loops: Settings → Customer accounts set to new while the theme still posts classic /account/login credentials, Multipass secret / return_to / shop domain mismatch, theme customers/login.liquid form action or JS hijack, Shop login / identity redirect across Markets domains, cookie / third-party blocking on account hosts, or you are debugging login-link email / password-reset email / storefront password gate instead. Walk them in that order. You already pay for Shopify. You do not need another auth SaaS to read Customer accounts settings, disable Multipass for a test, and open /account/login in a private window.

02

Prove classic vs new customer accounts and Multipass SSO.

Classic customer accounts use email + password on the theme login form. New customer accounts use Shopify’s passwordless / identity flow (often Shop login). Mixing them — theme still showing a password form while Settings → Customer accounts is New — produces redirect loops, blank account pages, or “login failed” with no useful error. Open Settings → Customer accounts. Note Classic vs New. Confirm every theme header “Account” link and every app that deep-links to /account matches that mode.

Multipass (Plus / custom storefront SSO) signs a token and redirects the buyer into a session. A wrong Multipass secret, expired token, mismatched shop domain, or bad return_to URL sends the browser bouncing between your app and Shopify account hosts. Honest proof: temporarily disable Multipass (or bypass the SSO entry point) and hit native /account/login. If the loop stops, fix the Multipass signer — not the theme password form. Related but narrower new-accounts UI extension / identity-provider work is covered on new customer accounts login broken; this page is the broader classic vs new + Multipass + theme login form + Shop login symptom.

03

Theme customers/login form and Shop login / identity hops.

On classic accounts, the theme owns customers/login.liquid (or an OS 2.0 customer section). A custom form that posts to the wrong action, strips the authenticity token, or lets an app’s JS preventDefault the submit will look like “login is broken.” On new accounts, the theme often just links into Shopify’s hosted login / Shop login; a wrong primary domain, www vs non-www, or Markets regional host can loop the identity hop.

Honest proof: private window, DevTools Network open. Open https://YOUR-SHOP/account/login and the header Account link. Watch for 302 loops between account hosts, shop.app, and your custom domain. Disable account-related app embeds one at a time. If www / SSL redirect is the loop, use www redirect loop Shopify. If the storefront itself is still password-gated, use password page stuck online— that is not customer login.

04

You tested login-link email, password-reset email, or password page stuck instead.

Magic login link email silence is customer login link email not sending. Forgot-password / reset email silence is customer password reset email not sending. Storefront “Enter using password / Coming soon” stuck after go- live is password page stuck online. Customer account invite email silence is customer account invite not sending. None of those fix a redirect loop caused by classic vs new mismatch, Multipass, theme login form, or Shop login.

Finish the login / redirect-loop proofs first. Only then open the related playbook that matches the remaining symptom.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: align classic vs new customer accounts with the theme, disable or fix Multipass, prove customers/login and Shop login in a private window with Network open, and stop confusing login-link email / password-reset email / storefront password gate with a login redirect loop. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Pay for help when the work is not the login console — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in DMs, storefront and checkout-ready exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.

What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.

Other shops’ public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.

What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever login guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.

Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
