Checkout Branding API not applying — not checkout UI extension, checkout language, Payment Customization.

Several products can look like “checkout still looks stock.” They do not share a settings panel. This page is only when Checkout Branding API / checkout editor branding (logo, colors, typography, custom CSS tokens) does not apply on the live checkout — Plus, checkout extensibility, published profile. A checkout UI extension / checkout extensibility app block that never loads is checkout UI extension not loading. Checkout stuck in the wrong language / Translate & Adapt is checkout language wrong. A Payment Customization Function that hides or reorders gateways is payment customization not hiding. Related extensibility upgrade pain after checkout.liquid retirement stays checkout-extensibility-upgrade-broken. This page is only: Shopify Checkout Branding API / checkout editor branding not applying (Plus, checkout extensibility, custom CSS tokens).

Six ordinary reasons branding stays stock: shop not Plus / branding surface unavailable; still on checkout.liquid instead of Checkout Extensibility; edits saved on a draft profile while buyers hit the published one; Branding API mutation pointed at the wrong checkoutProfileId; custom CSS tokens unsupported or rejected; Online Store theme branding confused with checkout branding. Walk them in that order. You already pay for Shopify Admin. You do not need another “checkout skin SaaS” to prove why branding is absent.

02

Prove Plus, Checkout Extensibility, and the published checkout profile.

Open Settings → Checkout and a live checkout (not only Theme editor preview) side by side. Capture: Shopify Plus (or other plan that exposes checkout branding); Checkout Extensibility live — not a legacy checkout.liquid customize path; the checkout profile you edited is the published / live profile, not a draft; Admin branding preview shows your logo / colors while live checkout still looks stock.

Screenshot Admin branding vs live payment step. If an app block / UI extension is missing but colors/logo are fine, leave this page and use checkout UI extension not loading. If branding is correct but strings are English / wrong locale, open checkout language wrong. If gateways are wrong order / still visible because a Function is Draft, open payment customization not hiding.

03

Fix Branding API target, custom CSS tokens, publish, and retest.

Align the Checkout Branding API / checkout editor: mutate or save branding against the live checkoutProfileId; publish the profile after edits; drop custom CSS tokens Shopify does not accept for that surface; re-upload logo assets if the CDN URL 404s. Do not paste Online Store theme CSS into checkout and expect it to stick — checkout branding is a separate design system.

Hard-refresh a logged-out live checkout (new session / private window). If you just upgraded off checkout.liquid, also walk checkout-extensibility-upgrade-broken. Related thank-you / order status blank after extensibility: order status page blank.

Checklist and how to prove branding appears on a new checkout.

Checklist: (1) screenshot Admin branding vs live checkout stock look, (2) confirm Plus / branding-eligible plan, (3) confirm Checkout Extensibility (not checkout.liquid), (4) confirm published profile ID matches Branding API target, (5) remove unsupported custom CSS tokens, (6) republish profile, (7) retest logged-out on a new checkout, (8) if only UI extension, language, or Payment Customization remains, switch playbooks.

Prove it: new checkout → logo / colors / typography / accepted tokens match Admin branding; draft profile changes do not leak until published; theme storefront branding still independent of checkout. If an extension block is still missing after branding looks right, open checkout UI extension not loading.

05

You tested checkout UI extension, checkout language, or Payment Customization instead.

Checkout UI extension / app block not loading is checkout UI extension not loading. Checkout language / translation wrong is checkout language wrong. Payment Customization Function not hiding/reordering gateways is payment customization not hiding. Extensibility upgrade broken after checkout.liquid is checkout-extensibility-upgrade-broken. None of those finish a branding bug where the Checkout Branding API / editor colors and tokens never reach the live profile.

Finish prove Plus / published profile → fix Branding API target + tokens → new-checkout proof first. Only then open the related playbook that matches the remaining symptom.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove branding on a live checkout, fix Plus / Checkout Extensibility / published profile, clear Branding API target and unsupported custom CSS tokens, and stop treating checkout UI extension / checkout language / Payment Customization as the same bug. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Pay for help when the work is not the branding toggle — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in DMs, cart / ops exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.

What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a branding retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.

Other shops’ public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or uptime claim.

What it does not buy: more orders, automatic Plus eligibility, a design system rewrite, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.
