Playbook · Search & Discovery filters / boosts empty
Shopify Search & Discovery filters / boosts empty or not applying on collections.
Written for a Shopify DTC owner whose Search & Discovery Filters tab is empty / unpublished, or whose boosts never change what appears first on a collection — not a theme facet widget bug, not empty predictive search, not metafields missing on a product page, and not a blank theme customizer. DIY-first: open the Search & Discovery app, prove Filters vs Boosts, publish sources products actually carry, scope boosts to the right collections, retest the live URL. Distinct from collection filters / facets not working, storefront search not returning, product metafields not showing, and JSON templates / section groups broken. No earnings claims, no invented case studies.

Search & Discovery filters / boosts — not collection-filters, storefront-search, metafields, JSON templates.
Several products can look like “my collection filters are broken.” They do not share a settings panel. This page is only when Apps → Search & Discovery → Filters is empty, unpublished, or Boosts never pin / bury / reorder products on a collection. A theme facets section that renders but does not filter the grid (while S&D itself looks configured) is collection-filters-not-working. Predictive search / search results empty or wrong is storefront-search-not-returning. Custom fields that never print on the product page are product-metafields-not-showing. Theme customizer blank / JSON templates not loading is json-templates-section-groups-broken. This page is only: Search & Discovery filters / boosts empty or not applying on collections.
Six ordinary reasons S&D filters or boosts stay empty / ignore collections: Search & Discovery not installed or not opened on this shop, Filters tab never given sources (availability, price, vendor, product type, tag, metafield), filters saved but not published to Online Store, boost rules scoped to the wrong collection / market / query, filter sources pointing at metafields with no values on products in that collection, or you are debugging theme facet UI / predictive search / PDP metafields / blank customizer instead. Walk them in that order. You already pay for Shopify Search & Discovery. You do not need another seat to get Filters and Boosts applying again.
02
Prove Search & Discovery admin empty vs live collection not applying boosts / filters.
Apps → Search & Discovery. Open Filters. Screenshot whether the list is empty, draft, or published with named sources. Open Boosts. Note which collections / searches a rule targets and whether it is active. Then open the live collection URL in a private window — count visible facets, click one filter, and check whether a boosted / pinned SKU actually moves to the front of the grid.
Honest proof: if the Filters tab itself is empty / unpublished, or Boosts never change collection order despite an active rule, stay on this page. If S&D Filters look healthy and only the theme facet chrome fails to filter the grid, leave for collection-filters-not-working. If the bug is the search box / predictive results, leave for storefront-search-not-returning. Do not mix those proofs.
03
Filters tab empty, unpublished, or wrong source attributes.
Search & Discovery owns which attributes become collection / search filters. An empty Filters list, a filter that still says draft, or a metafield / product option source with zero values on products in that collection will present as “filters empty” on the storefront even when the theme facets section is mounted.
Fix: install Search & Discovery from the Shopify App Store if it is missing. Apps → Search & Discovery → Filters → Add filter. Prefer sources products already carry (Availability, Price, Vendor, Product type, Tag, or a metafield definition that is filterable and filled on SKUs in the collection). Publish / save for Online Store. Wait a few minutes for indexing, hard-refresh the collection. If the metafield never prints on the product template either, that is a different product — product-metafields-not-showing— fix the definition / dynamic source there, then return to add it as a S&D filter source.
04
Boosts not applying — pin / bury / collection scope wrong.
Boosts reorder, pin, or bury products for specific collections or search queries. A rule scoped to Collection A will never move products on Collection B. A buried product that is also out of stock, a pin on a draft product, or a boost that only applies to search (not browsing) will look like “boosts not applying” when you test the wrong surface.
Fix: open Boosts → the rule in question. Confirm it is active, targets the collection URL you are testing (not only a search query), and references live, published products that belong to that collection. Clear conflicting pins / buries. Save. Retest the collection sort with cache bypassed (private window). Predictive search ranking is still storefront-search-not-returningwhen the search box is the only broken surface.
05
Theme still not reading Search & Discovery filter values.
After Filters are published in Search & Discovery, the Current Online Store 2.0 theme still has to expose a facets / filter section (or the theme’s built-in filtering). Some themes ship with the facets section removed, disabled on the collection template, or replaced by a third-party filter app that ignores S&D sources.
Fix: Themes → Customize → collection template. Confirm a facets / filters block is present and enabled on the Current theme (not only a draft). Disable conflicting filter apps temporarily. If S&D Filters are populated and published but the theme facet UI still will not change the grid, hand off to collection-filters-not-working. If Customize itself opens blank, that is json-templates-section-groups-broken— repair the blank customizer first.
06
You tested collection-filters, storefront-search, metafields, or JSON templates instead.
Theme facets mounted but grid never filters is collection-filters-not-working. Predictive search / search results empty or wrong is storefront-search-not-returning. Metafield / custom field blank on the product page is product-metafields-not-showing. Theme customizer blank or JSON templates / section groups not loading is json-templates-section-groups-broken.
The only honest test for this page: Search & Discovery Filters is empty / unpublished, or Boosts never apply on the collection you scoped. Fix Filters sources + publish, fix Boost scope, then confirm the theme still exposes facets. Anything else is a different product.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.
Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon on the list above: prove S&D admin vs live collection, populate and publish Filters, scope Boosts correctly, bridge the theme facets section, and stop confusing collection-filters / storefront-search / metafields / JSON templates with a Search & Discovery Filters / Boosts failure. That is the whole playbook. No agency required. Short answers also live on the merchant FAQ. Pay for help when the work is not the Search & Discovery row — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture is not dying in DMs, storefront and checkout-ready exceptions land in a channel you already check, and the live store is one workflow instead of a spreadsheet plus a Slack bot you forgot. That is the Latch AI Ops install.
What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a theme rebuild retainer, not a conversion guarantee, not a brand or theme job.
Other shops’ public ranges, not testimonials: a checkout / ops install typically runs $500–$2,500. A full ops consulting block typically runs $2,000–$5,000. $997 is the cheap end of that work, sold as a 72-hour install of three systems — not as an earnings number or conversion-lift claim.
What it does not buy: more orders, recovered revenue, a forever Search & Discovery guarantee, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.
Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
