Playbook · Instagram / TikTok lead capture

Instagram and TikTok DMs are dying instead of becoming store leads.

Written for a Shopify DTC owner whose warm social traffic — restock asks, drop waitlists, sizing questions that should become an email — still lives inside Instagram or TikTok DMs. DIY first: one link in bio into a Shopify form or Klaviyo embed you own. No follower promise, no earnings claim, no invented case studies.

01

DMs are not lead capture.

Someone watches a Reel, taps through to your profile, and asks “when is the restock?” or “put me on the list.” You answer in the thread. Maybe you remember to copy the email into a Notes app. Most of those threads go cold when Instagram or TikTok buries the conversation, the account switches phones, or you close the app after close.

That is not a social-growth problem. It is a capture problem. The store already has (or can have) a form on a page you own. The DM is a signal that the form was never the path of least resistance.

This page will not tell you how many followers you “should” have, how much revenue a waitlist “should” recover, or that a DM bot will print money. It is operator notes for moving the ask onto the store.

02

This is not the repetitive-support loop.

The repetitive-support playbook is post-purchase: the same “where is my order?” question still hitting Gmail, Gorgias, or Shopify Inbox after Klaviyo or Shopify Email already fired. That is a status gap after the sale.

This page is pre-list and pre-checkout. The person is still on Instagram or TikTok. They have not joined a list you control. They are not asking for tracking. Mixing those two jobs is how you buy a helpdesk seat for a capture leak.

04

Shopify form or Klaviyo embed — pick one you already pay for.

Native Shopify: a contact form, or a page with the customer accounts / email signup blocks your theme already ships. Keep the fields short — email plus optional note. Confirm the submission lands somewhere you open (store notification email or admin).

If you already pay for Klaviyo, embed a Klaviyo form or waitlist on that same page and send people into a list you already use for flows. Do not stand up a second ESP “for social.” The job is one owned list, not a new stack.

Overlap between Klaviyo and Shopify notifications is a different playbook — Klaviyo + Shopify notifications. Fix capture first; transactional overlap is after they buy.

Abandoned checkout mail that is late or missing after capture works is the abandoned-checkout playbook. That is downstream of this page.

05

One honest saved DM reply.

Save this somewhere you can paste. Swap the brackets. Do not ask them to type their email into the chat.

Thanks for writing — the waitlist / restock form is here: {your Shopify form URL}. Drop your email there and we will follow up from the store. I will not collect emails inside this DM so nothing gets lost when the thread scrolls.

Same URL in bio, same URL in Stories stickers when you can, same URL in the reply. Three paths to one form beats a clever chatbot that still dumps leads into a social inbox.

True exceptions — a custom order, a wholesale ask, a safety issue — stay human in DM or move to email intentionally. The default “notify me” should never live only in the thread.

06

What not to do.

  • Do not treat Instagram or TikTok inbox as your CRM. You do not own that database.
  • Do not collect emails inside the DM and promise you will “add them later.” Later is how leads disappear.
  • Do not buy a DM automation tool before the form page exists and the bio link points at it.
  • Do not point bio at a homepage with no form above the fold on mobile.
  • Do not claim a follower lift, open-rate lift, or revenue number from moving DMs to a form. This page will not either.
  • Do not confuse this with post-purchase WISMO loops — that is repetitive support.

07

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.

Stay DIY if you can spend one afternoon: publish one Shopify page with a native form or Klaviyo embed, point both bios at it, save the DM reply above, and send yourself a test submission. That is the whole playbook. No agency required.

Pay for help when the work is not the template — it is connecting the stack you already have so lead capture lives on the live store, ops alerts land in a channel you check, and post-purchase mail is one workflow instead of drafts you never finished. That is the Latch AI Ops install.

What $997 USD one-time buys: lead capture on the live store, ops alerts in a channel you already check, and a checkout-ready workflow. 72 hours after collaborator access, not after payment. One live Shopify store. Access plus a delivery thread. Store URL collected at checkout. Not a SaaS seat, not a social-growth retainer, not a Klaviyo rebuild, not a brand or theme job.

Other shops’ public ranges, not testimonials: a Shopify form or Klaviyo embed install typically sits in the same $500–$2,500 band as a small Flow/app install. A full social + CRM agency retainer is a different product. $997 is the cheap end of wiring three systems on one store — not a follower or revenue guarantee.

What it does not buy: more followers, more DMs converted as a guaranteed percent, recovered checkout revenue, or a case study. Latch AI Ops has not published customer proof because there are no customers yet. You are buying the install.

Checkout is on Whop. Operator is Nico. United States offer. You can revoke collaborator access after handoff. We do not take owner passwords.
