Shopify ShopifyQL metafield missing? Prove segment query, definition, and one write.
Written for a Shopify DTC owner whose ShopifyQL metafield never appears in a segment query, analytics report column, or ShopifyQL editor after the app should have written it. Start with definition ownership, access flags, one ShopifyQL SELECT that should return the field, and one authenticated write. This is not a blank customer-segment metafield on the segment editor alone, and it is not an Analytics API report-field miss without a ShopifyQL query.

01
A missing ShopifyQL metafield is not automatically a blank segment editor field.
Use this page when a ShopifyQL query (segment, report, or editor) cannot select or filter on a metafield the app should expose. If the miss is only the customer segment condition UI showing a blank metafield without a ShopifyQL query, use Customer segment metafield blank. If the miss is an Analytics API report field without ShopifyQL, use Analytics API metafield missing.
Do not rebuild every segment yet. Capture the shop, query text, resource (Customer / Order / Product), namespace.key, and whether any metafield mutation runs when the segment or report is saved.
02
Prove the owner resource, definition, and exact saved value.
Open Settings → Custom data and confirm the definition is owned by the Customer, Order, Product, or Shop resource your ShopifyQL FROM clause targets. Record the exact namespace and key, for example crm.lifetime_score, the type, and whether Admin and storefront access flags allow ShopifyQL to read it.
Manually save a short test value in Admin, refresh, and confirm it survives. If Admin cannot store the field, fix the definition before debugging ShopifyQL syntax or segment membership.
03
Check ShopifyQL query, segment, and report field together.
Confirm the ShopifyQL statement selects the metafield with the correct resource path and namespace.key, the segment or report uses that query (not a stale saved version), and one dry-run in the ShopifyQL editor returns rows when the test value exists.
Compare customer segments, custom reports, and Flow conditions that consume ShopifyQL: a query that never mentions the metafield will look like a "missing" field even when Admin holds the value. Soft-link customer segment discount not applying when segments match but discounts do not. Log query text and namespace.key only — never log personal data beyond what the shop already stores.
04
Trace one metafield write into the ShopifyQL surface.
After a stable definition, run one authenticated metafieldsSet for the namespace.key you recorded. Prove the same value in Admin GraphiQL and in a fresh ShopifyQL SELECT. If GraphiQL shows the test value but ShopifyQL does not, fix access flags, resource path, or query syntax — not the definition alone.
Keep the diagnosis distinct from Web Pixels Manager metafield blank and Flow condition metafield blank. Those touch pixel manager settings and Flow condition editors, not ShopifyQL query surfaces.
05
Retest one query and keep a small proof packet.
Use one test shop, one segment or report, and one ShopifyQL editor tab. Record resource, namespace.key, type, GraphiQL value after write, ShopifyQL SELECT result, and whether segment membership or the report column updates. Clear saved segment drafts between trials so the shop is not left with a stale query.
If the field is still missing, classify it as definition/value, access flag, wrong resource path, query syntax, or segment cache. Do not add a second analytics report until one write and one ShopifyQL read clean on one shop.

When to stay DIY vs pay $997.
Stay DIY when one definition, access flag, query path, or write explains the miss. Keep the proof packet so future segments and reports stay grounded in real ShopifyQL metafields.
Pay for the $997 one-time install when several Shopify surfaces, apps, catalogs, and ops alerts need to be wired and documented on one live store. No earnings claim, conversion guarantee, or theme rebuild is included; owner passwords are not requested.
